Check the fuel pump, be sure to get the proper one for your vehicle. Also check the fuel pump fuse and check codes.

Turn key forward listen for the fuel pump to pressurize if you don't here anything then your fuel pump needs replaced and it's in the tank.

SOURCE: Will not start without spraying starter fluid for a second.

I would start by changing the fuel filter. The next area would be the O-rings if so equipped. If it starts better after a short use then you are getting air in the fuel lines overnight. Diesels are tempermental. The cranking speed of the starter is important and easily checked externally. If you have a mechanical fuel pump you are relying on cranking speed to prime the fuel system. The timer or timing wiring could prevent the glowplugs from heating up. Diesels rely on glowplugs to start, then compression to run. Its a lot to look at but I suggested the cheapest fixes first.

SOURCE: check engine light does not turn off

If the light is still on there is a problem that is causing it to not turn off. If you replaced the EVAP cannister take a look at the EVAP solenoid. It trips the same code as the cannister and is more often the cause of the light rather than the cannister.

How do I take the drivers seat out of my 2002 Volkswagen Passat station wagon 1.8t?

Should be two 13mm head nuts under the front center support of the seat. Remove the two plastic track covers behind the seat. Roll seat back, with release pulled. Take care with connectors for seat heaters and airbags.

Problem starting 99 passat

well theres no carburator, and the filter is to far away for the starting fluid to reach the intake, you would have to remove the inlet tube, its black and round .its on the leftside ontop if your standing in front of the car,it goesto a metal intake, its clamped on, use a screw driver loosen clamp and wiggle off, have someone turn key on and hold gas pedal to floor now spray then reinstall boot then try to start do this fast before fluid evaporates but tube must be on for car to start, good luck.hope this helps.

2002 VW passat wagon brakes

Check the level of the brake fluid, as the pads wear down the fluid level falls slightly and the sensor reacts and gives the warning, it may happen more as you are cornering and the brake fluid moves, try gently topping up the brake fluid it doesn't need much..
