Question about 2000 Ford Focus
Handle broke-something snapped inside the panel holding the handle assembly when I went to open the hatchback one day. now there is no tension in the handle, it moves freely and will not release the hatchback to open
You need to get into the boot space remove trim card on boot lid then you will see lock assembly find the link rod to the catch flick it with a screwdriver and the boot will open to change the locl assembly is quite easy you will need TORX bits to remove fixing screws good luck.

since the new pads are alot thicker than the old ones, the brake needs to be set properly.
something is not right for sure.
the retainer for the park brake cable may be not in the right spot.there is two places it can fit.

SOURCE: handle on tailgate wont open
We have the same problem, remove the panel on inside tailgate and you will find the handle broken, it is made out of pot metal. You need new handle from dealer or salvage yard.

Cost? Well it depends on the shop labor rate where you take it to get repaired. It should require about 1 hour of labor to replace.
Dorman makes a replacement handle for your vehicle it is Part Number 79354. This same number will fit either the right side or the left side. It costs about $30. (It will probably cost more if the shop supplies the part...They have to mark it up in order to make a profit.)
