Sounds like you need the updated engine computer for harsh shifting. Look up under the glove box at the computer. Number should be 89661-02K21 if not, you need the update. It is an 8/80 warranty item.

SOURCE: Unable to shift from park into drive

there is a solenoid that releases the shifter when you step on the brake pedal.there is by the shifter a little tab that can be popped out with a small screwdriver, and using your key,put into the hole and the mechanical device will release the shifter.
it is called a shift lock override

2002 Toyota Camry. Won't shift out of park, no gauges work nor does the heater or radio and the turn signals

if you parked on hill have a friend bump your vehicle a little bit put on emergency brake and try and start car apply brake and try to shift out of park
every automatic has seen this as shift lock when its parked on a hill
once its been bumped the parking shifter should release tension

A 94 toyota camry le 2 door v6 transmission drive gears not workin but park and reversole do

There are really only 2 possibilities which are within your reach

- low trans fluid level, check that with engine idling
- poorly adjusted shift linkage, see p69 here

If anything else has failed, like a shift solenoid, it's really a job for a specialist.

1992 toyota camry v6 auto. can't move shifter. car starts and ste

Car must be on and brake pedal depressed to shift. If you have no brake lights then the car doesn't know the pedal is depressed and will not shift out of park. This car has an interlock overide on the shifter console, push it and it will come out of Park. You will need a brake light switch tho.

Loss of power and drive but engine is still running

The water bubble under the dash might be a heater core, and the slow and sluggish might be caused by the transmission, try checking the wires and plugs, they may need to be replaced, we just changed out the wires and plugs on ours and it did wonders!
