SOURCE: 99 dodge ram 3500 5.9 turbo diesel fuel problem

It is my understanding that the fuel lft pump has been replaced( updated) and is now gone back to the old way and is re installed in the tank.

I have had to put 3 lift pumps in since new, little did I know but Cummins tells me that the lift pump delivers minimal pressure and shortens the life of your injector pump.

So if that is true perhaps it is best to eliminate the lift pump and go with the new in tank pump. I plan on doing it the next time I have a problem.

SOURCE: 99 dodge 2500 5.9 cummins fuel pressure at 3psi

The 3 psi is caused by a failed transfer pump. The problem the loss of could be the VP44 injection pump. This pump should be run at min 7psi. I had the same fuel pressure problem. I replaced my stock transfer pump with a FASS DDRP from www.usdieselparts.com. The stock pump is over $200 to replace and will fail again, sometimes right out of the box. The DDRP will supply about 15psi to the pump and is simple to install. I hope this helps.

I HAVE A 1998 DODGE 3500 P/U DIESEL. THE WAIT OT START LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING. IT WILL CRANK BUT NOT START>

The wait to start light is telling you there's a problem. Check out your drivers guide. There can be a whole load of problems causing this problem, water in the diesel, blocked fuel filter, no diesel, but if it cranks and starts eventually. The glow plugs probably need replacing.

I need "step by step" instructions on how to replace the fuel filter on my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup. Thanks !

Here you go if it is a diesel:
A. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
The fuel filter is located inside of the fuel filter housing
1. Unscrew and remove fuel filter cap at top of fuel filter housing. To unscrew, attach tool to 6-sided hex center of cap. Do not loosen cap at outer edge. The fuel filter cap is designed to remove filter while pulling up on cap.
2. Remove O-ring from cap and discard.
3. The filter is retained to cap with little fingers. Carefully pry a couple of them off from old filter.
B. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
1. Thoroughly clean inside of filter housing, cap, etc. with clean diesel fuel
2. Fill filter housing (canister) with clean diesel fuel. NOTE: If you do not do this, you will have to manually bleed air out of system later. No fun.
3. Snap new fuel filter to bottom of cap.
4. Install new O-ring
5. Apply lihgt film of clean diesel oil to cap O-ring
6. Load filter/cap into housing.
7. Tighten cap to 25 ft. lbs. torque. Do NOT over-tighten.

Getting diesel in oil

Sounds like you might have a bad fuel injector that is dumping fuel in a cylinder that is running down the cylinder into the oil. Could be a fuel pressure regulator that is not holding it's pressure causing fuel to do the same thing.

Is it running good? Smoke a lot?
