You can try a different switch. If both switches have same effect, then the motor is wearing out and will need to be replaced. The door panel will have to be removed to access the motor

hi unfortunately no you can not replace just the cable, you will have to replace the whole motor mechanism the cables are crimped specially so unless you have the crimping tools required you will have to get the whole thing replaced..sorry but this is the only way

SOURCE: My left back driver side

Regulator is broken. Very common problem on e46.
The plastic window regulators were apparently designed by the same guy who designed the plastic guides in the moon roof (which also spontaneously disintegrate on a regular basis).
The window regulator costs $150 from on-line vendors, and is not too hard to install.
I fixed the driver door window regulator in my wife's '04 330i with a couple of zip ties and it is still working fine a year later.

The rear windows on my 2000 chevy tahoe won't work. i can hear power in the buttons when i press them but they don't move.

Hello -

The motors for your car's power windows may be failing and will need to be replaced. I've personally experienced the same problem, more than once, with a different auto make and model.

Or, the window glass may have come off the track which holds it.

Unless you can do the work yourself, you will eventually need to take your car to a reputable auto mechanic and have the work done. It is not inexpensive, by the way.

The information here may help you remediate the problems temporarity:

Left rear window went down and won't go up

Posted this earlier...similar problem..

First do you hear it trying to work, is it like a "clack, clack, clack" sound? or you hear the motor running smoothly? You will need to remove the door panel and take a look behind the plastic water seal to see whats going on, it is either going to be the regulator ( part the motor is attached to...cable broke)/damaged or more likely the nylon bushings inside the motor itself, they run like 10 bucks on Amazon. If you take the motor out of the regulator assembly be careful not to let the cable system come apart/unwind( use nylon ties while motor is out to hold in place). The motor itself is straight forward open/replace worn/falling apart nylon bushings/relube/reassemble. The tricky part is not screwing up the regulator assembly...depends on your skills.

The rear passenger side window will not stay up. I dont hear the motor on the power window when i push the up position button.

If the motor runs, either up or down, then this is a broken Regulator.

Note: Even with a broken regulator, the motor may stop at a certain point, so you wouldn't hear it.
