1. Connect the distributor's B+ (battery) terminal to a switched 12-volt source, such as the ignition switch.
2. Connect the distributor's tach terminal to the tachometer signal wire, if you have a tachometer.
3. Connect the distributor's ground wire to a good engine ground.
4. Connect the distributor's #1 spark plug wire to the #1 spark plug on the engine. The #1 spark plug is usually located on the driver's side front cylinder.
5. Connect the remaining spark plug wires in firing order sequence to the distributor cap terminals. The firing order for a Buick 455 engine is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The thing that burned is a fuse link. It's a wire marked "fuseable link" and it's connected to the battery stud on the starter replace it with a link of the same size you can use a regular wire to start and move it but don't drive it that way because if something grounds out the whole car will burn. If there's more than one link down there and if they don't look burned just pull on them and the one that pulls apart is the bad one, I just had a thought if there's enough of the link left you can use a wire connector to reconnect don't try to solder the link will burn. I hope this helps. Take care. If you have more questions for me use testimonial and it will show up in my email.

Pull the number 1 spark plug out, Turn the engine until you feel pressure on the cylinder with your finger over the hole in the head. Then get the timing mark on the crank pulley to line up with the split in the case. Pull your distributor cap off and look which way the rotor button is pointing, that will be the number one spark plug wire location. The dis. turns clockwise and run the wires 1 - 3 - 4 - 2. around the cap from that contact location.
So far so good. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The #1 wire goes in the distributor at the 6:30 o'clock position and the rest of the wires go clockwise from there according to the firing order. The 6:30 position should be the first one to the right of the window on the cap. Hope this helps.
You need to drain some coolant. Loosen and disconnect water lines by the firewall- the ones in the way of your wire change. u need to get a diagram of the firing order of the engine so that those wires are correctly connected to the coil packs.
