How to change engine oil tank of 1998 ford ka ?

The motor has what is called a positive crankcase ventilation system (PCV - hence the valve). It also has a pipe that goes from the top of the motor to the air cleaner. If your piston rings are well warn, the added pressure that this produces will force a quantity of oil into the air cleaner. A small amount is normal. You are probably losing some oil through the rings as well. The loss of power may be that your compression is low from the bad rings. You can check the compression yourself. They sell compression testers for about 30 bucks. Follow the directions. If a piston does read low compression, squirt some motor oil in the cylinder after the first test. If the reading goes up, that means that the rings are bad.

You most likely hit a curb, the pan is cast aluminum and will break like glass if you hit a curb, the pan can be changed without removing the engine, it is very time consuming, but it can be done.

You really need an inspection pit as the car needs to be level. Unscrew filler cap from front face of gearbox ( carefull though as there is a blanking cap as well and it is the one furthest from engine) The oil level should be between 5mm and 10mm below bottom edge of filler plug)

If you have the optional message center it is on page 144 of your owners manual. Press and release the SETUP
control to display “OIL LIFE =
XXX% then HOLD RESET = NEW”.

If you have the standard message center this begins on page 126 of your owners manual.

i have exactly the same problem, same model and year, car runs perfect but oil light comes on after 5 mins or so. its got me stumped!
