S500 transmission problem - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Sorry to say this but the transmission is not engaging. I would first check for any vacuum leaks, if they are all good than try to look at the transmission fluid see if it is black and it smells burnt if so you do need to replace the transmission.

If the RPM's go high and barely moving. The transmission is slipping. Eventually it will stop moving when the clutches are completely worn out. The more you drive it like this, the more internal damage you can cause. The shaking could be this also. But you could need a tune up, or could have bad engine mounts.

Check your gear shift linkage and have your transmission inspected or serviced.

You don`t want to tow the vehicle on the drive wheels at all. You will damage you transmission. But if it is a shifter problem you can unhook the linkage from the transmission and move the shift lever with your hand. If it is a transmission problem, you cant do it without disassembling the transmission.

Modulator or stage pistons are going out. You can try replacing the pistons as they are cheap and can be done without removing the transmission. Head to benzworld.org or peachparts.come for more help.

If it is old model of transmission - switch is on the left side of gearbox connected to shifting rod,
if it is new (electronic) transmission-switch is inside gear lever mechanism.

tap the shifter with a hammer and pull back at the same time this will work ok. big g.

Hello, The proper name for this A/T control module. Be careful because there are many other factors that control the transmission shifting like shift solenoid, throttle valve solenoid, trans speed sensor, trans temp switch etc. etc.
