The car turns over but will not start. Took the spark plug out and it is not getting any fire.
Before all that other stuff, take the cap off and make sure the distributor rotor turns, if it dont then your timing belt is broke
on older vehicles this was a test that could be preformed by simply removing plug wire to check spark. on newer vehicles some special tools are required to test these things. the explanation is quite lengthy, so here is a direct quote & a link to a site that helps do it yourselfers. the series of tests are for Mitsubishi (Chrysler Sebring or Dodge Stratus).
An HEI Spark Tester
Don't use a regular Spark Plug instead of a Spark Tester to test for Spark. Using a regular Spark Plug will give a false test result that'll have you chasing the wrong diagnostic path/conclusion and in the process wasting time and money

Hi Georgiaboy, Following are the most usual problems. A vehicle will loose spark if there is a problem with the crankshaft or camshaft pick up sensors. The third most likely cause will be the anti theft system having become active. To pin point the actual problem have a diagnostic scan carried out on the vehicle. Regards John
Could be knock sensors. crank or cam.
