Go to dealer and purchase a lid pull down switch. Put it on. Fix car.

There is a electric motor on the lower part of the trunk that usually goes bad. Not on the trunk lid but the trunk part. You can remove the assembly and take it apart so you can turn the latch all the way down , Once youy have done this you can put it back in place. Make sure you unplug the motor so it won't go up again, You should be able to use the release button inside.

The small switch is the trunk by the pull down motor with the flap that depresses down is at fault. That is what you call the truck pull down switch. You can take this part and show it to a Cadillac or Ford parts department sales person and get a replacement for you car. Ford uses the same part for their Lincolns and Crown Vic's. The part is made by the very same supplier for Ford & GM. Ford will sell this part at a much lower cost as well compared to GM

There's a switch ( kinda same shape, color & operation method as your power seat switches) behind driver's seat near the 2 Boot/Top 'release' pull tabs,, it's mounted on the "roof" of the open compartment area behind the seats. Slide your hand along there til you feel it. It recycles the pull-down motor up & down & should release the top. Also try in the trunck, there's 2 hard plastic strings with loops at end,, pull & see if it releases it.

Hi hawley_lisa, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Hood or?
Top trunk latch will not hook into the bottom eyelet latch, pull down motor is working properly but the top latch won't hook to enable the trunk lid to be pulled down into place.

Usually this happens if something was pressing against the trunk top latch. What happens is it bends it about 1/4 of a inch. You can adjust the top latch. I have ran into this issue several times.
