Amplifier built into stereo is shorting out causing it to kick off and no sound will play. Resetting by removing power for a few minutes will reset and will work until short is noticed again by system.

Before removal if it is a factory unit a main franchised dealer should have the code, if not there are companies who recode them for a small fee. Cheaper than a new unit.

you can try removing the negative cable from the terminal on the cars battery for a few seconds (but it will reset time clock as well)

its not to hard if you have basic skills or better you must remove the old stereo from car which can mean certain parts of the dash will have to come out usually the surround around the stereo you may also need a special tool to get the old stereo out of the dash then you will have to find a wire diagram off the factory stereo so you can wire the factory speakers up to your head unit also you will need to mount the new stereo to the dash which is simple a mount frame should be in the new head unit box

You will need a pair of MB stereo removal tools for the slots at the bottom corners of the radio. Can be ordered from professional tool distributers.

Yes the code should be in with you owners manual and paperwork if not go to an MB dealer and see if they can look it up.

There are 2 types of wood trim on the s-class. One is a solid piece and the other is split in the middle. Remove the ac pushbutton panel, remove the shifter trim and remove the cigar lighter insert. If it is a solid panel, then you will unscrew two screws underneath where the ac panel was and I believe that with the ac panel out of the way you can reach in and pull the radio head out. If you need to remove more, then be very careful with the wood-very costly. If it is the split wood, look for a screw on the back of the cigar lighter wood trim(you've already removed the insert, right). You need a 1/4 in. ratchet with a screwdriver bit to access. You only need to loosen it up and slip it off. With the wood out of the way, look for two hidden screws on the inside front edge of the center console wood panel-right behind the wood cover you just removed. These will have to come out as well. Once they are out, pull up gently on the front of the rear wood panel(around the shifter) and slip out, There are likely two more screws underneath this panel. Take them out to remove upper wood trim.
