Have the cooling system pressure tested to 20 psi remove the spark plugs & see if any water/coolant comes out of the spark plug holes. You may have a cracked cylinder head or partially blown head gasket.

SOURCE: 1997 Honda Civic EX power loss

start with the easy stuff. check the plugs. make sure they are not wet with oil leaking from the spark plug stem seals located on the rocker cover. Check your air filter to make sure its clean. Now for the slightly harder stuff. The spark plug wires should be changed every 80k or so. My suspect the reason for the power loss is most likely a clogged cat convert in the exhaust system. check your exhaust flow. Way to do that is to check the temp. of the exhaust before the cat and the temp. after the cat. If the Cat is plugged the temp before the catalytic converter will be abnormally higher than after the cat.

BUT if you are experiencing misfire of engine. I would go straight to replacing spark plugs and wires. Distributor cap and rotor.

Also check the charging system. make sure the alternator is charging the battery at above 13Volts. With all components on. ( radio/lights/highbeam/AC). Use a voltmeter and check at the battery positive and negative. if its not charging above 13 V replace the alternator.

good luck

SOURCE: Idle Problem

man it's normal that when u turn on the A/C then the idle will drop and but it will turn off cause the A/C load and the other accesories consume higher power than the power from idle so u need to less the load applied on the engine by turning off any auxiliary electronics when u want to use the A/C like xenon lights but if u only turn hte A/C and u have this problem then u need to increase the idle to prevent turning off of the engine

SOURCE: problem with cold start and blowing smoke, runs fine after warm

Honda engines (D series imparticularly) run quite smokey on start up. For some reason condensation builds in the exhaust once it has been left (this is assuming the smoke is clearish/white) Occasionally, if it is blue smoke, you might have a leaky oil seal (typically the crank position sensor), but it's no biggy as it's only a few mls of oil per week.

There's no such thing as a tune up. Honda's are controlled by their ECU. As long as your air filter is cleaned regularly, and especially having regular oil changes 6,000miles, it should run +250k miles.

SOURCE: 89' honda civic lx dies after 10 minutes or warms up?

it is probably your distributer. It has a internal amplifier and when it gets hot, it quits working.

Even the best kept vehicle can have an EGR problem. Makes no difference what else you do to it to TRY to make it run better, until you replace the Exhaust Gases Recirculation valve, you'll always have the problem. Replace the EGR, no more problem.

Power Loss

hay I had the same issue it heated up quick and got too hot, the problem is that the thermostat can wear out and restrict the circulation of the coolant. an easy fix just get the bugger taken out no need to replace it and it will run just fine

Sqeek in the block

Sounds like you have a piston siezure! Was the motor run with no oil or oil pressure light on? Did it overheat due to water loss/leak? If the answer is yes to any of above, then more than likely the squeeking is due to piston sizure.
