My gear shaft is stuck in park

1984 to 1988 not told
wow an almost working Fiero. Pontiac
not told at all when did it last shift and drive.
last decade or?
i guess the box is rusted up solid.
NO to park is usually a free trip
but park to any other gear is blocked if brake lamps are dead. called park lock out.

at side of the gear box. (a/t) shift the shaft lever shaft by hand (cable dropped off) if will not move the tranny is rust bucket inside.

to shift takes foot on brake and shift.
brake lamps show dead, it can not shift.

Clutch is either worn out or stuck in the disengaged position - unless something dramatic has happened to the transmission, drive shafts, etc.

Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied, start the engine and select a gear and then look under the car to check if a drive shaft is turning.
If nothing is moving under there, the problem is either the clutch or transmission and at this stage it hardly matters which as the transmission must be removed to check the clutch.

No adjustment however check your linkage /shift cable. Somethings off track

Sounds to me that you need your trans fluid changed and filter. When you do change it use a quart of Lucas transmission conditioner to it. Also check and see if you may have a bad univercel, It will also make it vibrate at faster speeds or your drive shaft may need to be rebalanced.

They had a lot of problems with the pressure sensors. I would replace the whole tail shaft because they had problems with them. You don't have to remove the trans to remove the shaft. Get one from the junk yard. Hope this helps leave comment.

The parking mechanism in the transmission has a shaft which slides into a V shaped groove. This is designed to make it easier to put the car in park. The bad part is that it allows for a little movement. The best way to prevent this from happening again is to engage the parking brake when you put it in park, especially on an incline. This will prevent the rollback you experienced from happening again. Hope this helps.

Park rod inside transmission is probably broke on the end. Was a BAD problem for a few years.

Safety switch located under the gear stick mechanism inside the car.Needs replacement.
