Cant find the orifice tube in my chevrolet lumina

The AC orifice tube on a 1997 Chevrolet Cheyenne 4.3 ltr vortec v-6 truck is located in the small inlet tube of the evaporator. The high pressure liquid line must be removed to gain access then the orifice tube can be pulled out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

If you are not somewhat mechanically inclined you should let a professional do this as the AC coolant will be released. You will have to re-charge the system upon completion. Here are some quotes from on-line mechanics to give you a better idea what you are looking for. The Orifice tube can be determined as faulty when your AC doesn\'t cool properly in the summer or heat well in the winter. Often you will smell antifreeze inside your car\'s interior.

The liquid line is located in the area of the abs pump.

Another suggestion comes from Ronnie Bennett Sr.: "The orifice tube will be on the small line joining the evaporator, the ac line will be swelled where the orifice tube is at, you may not see it, but use needle nose pliers to remove it, and to install it."

Usually the orifice tube is in the lower metal line going to the condenser, possibly behind the grille. The line is bulged out wider where the tube is.

You may have a stopped up orifice tube,feel of the large ac line going into the firewall,see if it is cold,if it is,then the inside door for the temp is not working,but if the ac line is not cold,remove the freon and remove the orifice tube and clean it,or replace it,then charge the system back up.If this was at all helpful,please rate,thank you.

Under dash left hand side it can be square or a round plastic like tube shape or plastic box that plugs in. Use a flash light it is dark under there.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO REMOVE THE REFRIGERANT.BUT THIS JOB YOU NEED EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE ON AIRCONDITIONERS SYSTEMS BECAUSE YOU NEED A VACUUM PUMP TO PULL OUT MOISTURE AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET YOU NEED SPECS FOR OIL CHARGE AND REFRIGERANT CANT PUT TOO MUCH IN.YOU NEED SYSTEM FLUSHED OUT REMOVE DEBRIS OUT LINES.THE ORIFICE TUBE AND ACCUMULATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED.
