Check engine light doesn't always come on when turning the key to the on position 2008 chevy aveo5

Start with checking the fuel pressure. Also if your service engine is on, get a list of the codes.

There are like three bolts holding the entire starter assembly in. The wires to it are large to carry a lot of amperage. There are basically two and they will have learned the position they are bolted on. remove them and then replace the old unit with the new and the wires will want to go back tot heir old positions. If you are uncomfortable doing this then don't. I did this once on a Ford 460 on a freeway on ramp. It is very quick and easy. Here is a link to picture of the starter:

If it's just for the "change oil" light, turn the key to the "on" position, not start and step on the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. If it's the actual "service engine" light, take it to a service center so they can put a scanner on it and find out what's causing the service engine warning.

If you turn key to START position, what is the sound, is it;
1. no sound at all means maybe starter problem.
2. only heard Tik sound means starter problem (you can add relay but it will still happen in future)
3. crank sound but not start means battery weak.

You can also try to move gearshift to N instead of at P position before turn key to START. if it work mean your car safety switch at gearbox not know which gear you're on.

If you are talking about the headlight casing, where the clear headlight casing connects to your back headlight casing, that isn't the way to change the light bulb, you're going to damage the seals that protect water, and humidity.

Turn the ignition key to the 'on' position without starting the engine. Pump the accelerator to the floor 5 times (within 3 seconds of turning the ignition to the on position). Start the engine. It should be reset. If it doesn't work the first time, you might have to try again.

being 2008, is should still be under the warranty. Take it to the car wash and use one of the high pressure washing machine and see where is coming in from. more likely will be the tail light. if its hatchback have someone sit in the back with a flash light and while spraying the water have that person observing the leaks.

The key tumbler may have come apart and the vehicle will need to be serviced at the dealer due to having a chipped key, must be recoded.
