Without having any specific vehicle information the problem is most likely caused by a dirty idle speed control valve and dirty sludged up throttle valve.

Blocked fuel filter, blocked intake air filter, improper timing or a failed engine control module.

could be fuel pump in the tank you need to plug it in to a diagnostic machine

if car is not getting hot no problem to drive

best bet is to go get any codes that may be stored in the PCM. This will take alot of the guess work out of diagnosing it. Or remove the spark plgs and replace them.. If you have 50,000 or more this could be the cause but a code may tell you which one is the issue

Have you went over all the vacuum lines and checked for cracked or clasped line?

Has the clutch been replaced recently? There is an earth wire under one of the bell housing bolts,if not refitted can cause all sorts of problems.
