Air cabin filter is located outside under the black plastic wiper grating. You have to pull the passenger wiper arm off and unscrew the black plastic grating then remove the black plastic cover thats over the filter on passenger side os SUV.

Where is the cabin filter on a 2001 Ford Expedition

It was a dealer installed option in 2001.....If you do have one, it is under the dash on the right side. You will have to remove the black trim cover from under the dash to access the HVAC housing. If you do have it, it slides UP into the HVAC from the underside.

Is a cabin filter same as air filter on1997 mercury sable

The cabin filter is not the same filter as the air filter. The cabin filter is for the heating and air conditioner inside the car. The air filter is for the engine.

How do you get access to the cabin air filter?

On the expedition you go under the hood passenger side. The black venting that sits right next the hood will have some clips holding it together. Remove the clips and the cover and you will see the cabin air filter at the back of the opening.

Thanks for your answer, but I was asking about the cabin air filter not the engin air intake filter

The cabin air filter is usually located behind the glove box or at the base of the windshield in the cowl area over the HVAC inlet duct. The exact location can be found in the vehicle owner’s manual or a filter reference guide at the auto part store where you purchase the cabin air filter from.
On most Fords, the filter is located under the hood in the cowl area. On Chrysler models, it is located under the dash. On GM products, it might be under the hood (Impala, Lumina and Monte Carlo), under the dash (Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe) or behind the glove box (Venture). On Toyota, Lexus, Nissan and most Honda models, you’ll find the filter behind the glove box. There is no cabin air filter even listed for a 1998 Oldsmobile Regency.

On vehicles where the cabin air filter is mounted under the cowl at the base of the windshield, some disassembly may be required to replace the filter. This may involve removing a plastic cowl cover. The area around the filter usually collects debris, so this area should be cleaned to remove any leaves, bugs or other debris before the old filter is pulled out. This will prevent any contaminants from falling into the HVAC inlet duct.

On vehicles where the filter is located behind the glove box, the glove box may have to be removed to replace the filter. On others, the filter can be accessed from under the dash and pulled out of a slot in the HVAC unit.

Most cabin air filters are flat-panel filters, but some have unusual shapes, so they will fit the HVAC inlet duct. Some filters also come in two sections to make replacement easier.

Where is the cabin filter?

I checked several on line parts stores. No one lists a cabin filter. I do not think you have a cabin filter. I believe models prior to 2000 did not have them. Check with your local Acura Dealer's Parts Department.
