The fouth one (passengers side of radio) blows very cold. any thoughts?
The hoses have been disconnected so look under the dash and see if you can see the hoses dangling there if not it will be a vacuum motor, but if you drive on rough roads then they have come loose.
depending on which one it is say the blend door motor or the cool heat motor they can be very hard to get to, if you put your hand under the dash with the ac on and car running stick your hand under the dash if you feel clod air under the dash then you will know it's your hoses to the vent outlets.
Yes, most likely it's the switch that makes it go to the floor the middle and the defrost sides, it's operated by vacuum and if the switch develops a leak it would cause it not to operate on all vents. If one side gets vacuum then it would receive a signal (Technical Term) and thus operate all doors receiving a signal, it would not be to difficult for you to change if you can use a screw driver and are mechanically inclined, and if you sent me a picture of the dash I could tell you how to remove it as they are all different.
ok remove the dash beauty ring remove all dials that stick out pull cover and then you will find screws under the beauty ring that will allow you to remove the control panel of the AC fan position switch, look on the back of-this switch the one that goes to floor dash and all then remove the selector switch replace the switch and you will be good to go.
yes three don't work and it's the selector switch that is bad so go buy a new one and repalce as prvious instrutions I have sent.
yes
yes I do because the only thing controling them is the switch they all operate off of vachum and your statement tells me that I am correct, if it was low on refrigerant you would not get cold air so replace the selector switch and you will have the problem solved.
there is one more thing I spen the money to check and there are vachum motors on the passenger side for the system, to get a better ideal whats going on go to http://www.alldata.diy.com and get a subscription for your car and it will have a break down for your car on the ac ducts and the vac. motors it's worth the money if it's blowing ice cold it does not need to be recharged and you have the know how. so do it sir!

how does one access the vacuum motor, under dash? behind radio?
i get plenty of air out of all four vents. only one is cold. there is no air under the dash - are there vacuum operated directional doors for the cold air to feed the vents - maybe 3 don't open?

I am mech inclined & can use a screw driver - thanx for your help in this matter. Local mechanic wanted to charge the ac system - ! ? !
i think i should be clear that 3 of the dash vents blown warm air and one of the dash vents blows ice cold air. I've taken it apart and feel you may have understood that 2 of the settings (up, down, defrost, up & down) didn't blow cold air. That's not the case - as a matter of fact when I put it on defrost max cold the passengers side of the defroster blows ice cold and the drivers side defroster blows warm air. Do you still think it's the switch?
