The check engine light mainly monitors emission problems and a lot of other variables including timing and engine temperature. Most major auto parts stores scan or will loan you a scanner free of charge. Get the errors code number(s) and post it back here or google them for additional help

It depends on te year and make of car, a check engine light yellow means emissions issues a check engine light red means oil or water temperature problem so depending on which one it is could mean the difference of a major or minor problem. Also if the yellow check engine light comes on and there is a plug fouling then you could ruin your catalytic converter due to a misfiring spark plug. whatever the reason have it checked right away don't let it ruin your car, and if you allow the check engine light yellow to stay on for a long time there can be very evpensive repairs that have to be done cause you let it go and it ruined other componets.

My check engine oil light been on for about two weeks & I don’t have the money this week to get the oil changed, so do you I think I can push it to next Friday ?

Typically, yes just take it easy and dont rev the motor too much or speed. If you can get a cheap quart of oil 10-40 or 10-30 and put it in. The light is due to low pressure- low oil.

Engine management light on car runs fine

Service engine soon or check engine light? Engine light needs scanned for codes. Service engine soon is for oil changes and such. To get rid of service lights, turn the key on, press the gas pedal three times within five seconds. The light will flash. turn the key off. it's reset. At least check or change the oil and filter though.

Service engine soon light

The service engine soon could be an indicator that you need to have minor maintenance done in the near future. I had a Grand Am that the service engine light would turn on when I was getting close to needing an oil change. You might check your owners manual for an exact reason as to why it turns on.

Check engine light is on

There's a separate light for checking the oil, the check engine light could be 100 different things; the only way to find out if it serious is to have a professional run a diagnostic; your car is relatively new so you can get this done at any shop. The shop will charge you a modest fee (think around $45) but that is just to find out what the problem is, depending on what's wrong it could vary greatly in price from very little to quite a lot; in either case you aren't obligated to get the work done where you get the diagnostic.

For the record, even if it something small and you decide to put the repair off; you will not pass a smog inspection with a lit check engine light or one that has been rendered inoperable. If you do get a "check oil" light don't get an oil change, just add a half of a quart of oil to the engine.

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has 276,*** miles on it. I bought it used 4 months ago. It was running excellent then the service engine soon light, low coolant light, and change oil soon light started coming...

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

My change oil light never goes off even though I had it changed and now my service vehicle soon light is on even though its been running fine

The change oil light needs to be reset after each oil change...some shops are not knowledgeable on how to do this...Your owners manual will instruct you how to reset the oil change light...The service engine soon is a catch all for low fluids and other needs...Be sure to check your oil level again...to clear the service engine soon light, you can disconnect either battery cable for 15 minutes then reconnect...if the service engine stays on...then you need to have your Grand Am checked...Auto Zone does a free diagnostic of check engine light codes...:)

2002 impala - service vehicle soon light appears at random intervals. put a code scanner on the car and no codes returned. opening/closing trunk seems to make message disappear....what is going on?

Service vehicle soon is not the same as Check Engine. This is a reminder to perform some regularly scheduled maintenance based on your mileage. Could just be an oil change. Look in your owner's manual to find out.

How to reset service engine soon after oil change

are you sure thats a main-lamp, not a ser-eng-soon meaning check engine as something is wrong, some car makers use service engine soon or check engine to let you know you have a problem.

2003 Mitsubishi Montero (full-size) check engine light is on, the engine sounds like it knocks as I accellerate and the shift diff. lights blink after driving 25 or 30 miles.

The engine is probably making a knocking sound because the oil needs to be changed or replaced. The check engine light is indicating that you will need regular dealership servicing soon, however you can still drive the vehicle but depending on mileage it will determine what services are required.
