1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE High & Low Air Conditioner Service Valve

I am looking to recharge my air conditioner and I ran into some problems. Which connection is my high service valve and which is my low? I see a connection with a red cap, then I also see a connection with a green cap with some text by it that says its the evap service valve. If the evap is the low, and the red cap is the high, do i need a special connector to the low valve, since the gauge low hose does not fit the connection? The engine is a 2.4L.

SOURCE: Recharging air conditioner

START AT THE FIREWALL WHERE THE LINES CONNECT, MOVE ALONG THE LINES ABOUT 10 - 12 INCHES OR SO. THE LOW SIDE CONNECTOR SHOULD BE THERE UNDER THE WIPER TRANSMISSION BEHIND THE COIL PACKS. THE HIGH SIDE IS NEAR THE COOLANT RECOVERY TANK. YOU MAY HAVE TO LIFT IT FROM THE RETAINER.

It should have a plastic cover on it. It will look like a valve stem for a tire inside (Schrader valve). You want the high side.

Where is the low pressure valve for the recharging the air conditioner on a 97 Olds Bravada?

it is located between the compressor and the accumulator. the quick disconnect valve is smaller than the high pressure valve so you can't make a mistake using the single recharging hose.

My 96 grand prix's air conditioner compressor will not turn on when the switch is activated. I have replaced the large fuse under the hood but that still hasn't solved the problem. The indicator light on...

that light goes on mostly likely cause you need freon. the compressor will not go on if there is no freon. buy a userfriendly can at autozone. put it in low pressure valve(blue)  if it works but no cold enough air check under your hood for the proper pounds or ounces needed of freon.  if it doesnt work its your compressor.  GOOD LUCK! :)

Air conditioner

The one closest to your AC compressor... i.e. the part that the belt spins around.. Is the low side.. Not to mention, air conditioning recharge hoses ONLY FIT on the low side.. Worst case scenario, try both.. the one that it clamps down on to is the low side..
