First-what tests were done to determine it is damaged?
Second- if it is,there is a lot more work that goes into flushing the system ,etc, as a result of the compressor failure.
Third- unless you have the knowledge and equipment and are licenced to purchase refrigerant,you have to take it to a shop

To answer your question,it is just an item that is held on with a couple of bolts, and as you would be aware,has two refrigerant hoses bolted to it.
In most cases,you access it , most easily from the bottom of the vehicle
