How can I tell if the starter in my car is bad and that's why it wont start. I bought a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora for $400 and the guy said all it needed was a starter. I thought ok good deal. But the 19

The car tries to start once or twice with a fresh battery but wont turn over. After that i get nothing. not a click or any sound at all. All the power in the car works fine after that so I know the battery is not dead so what gives. If the starter is bad or is going bad would it even try to start at all. I'm baffled and when i mention to people that work on cars on the side that the starter needs to be replaced they want nothing to do with it because it has the North Star 32 valve V8 Cadillac motor in it.

Remove the starter and take it to your local parts store that should be able to test it. If it isn't bad, you may want to start looking at the starter relay.

SOURCE: cutlass supreme wont start

It could possibly be the starter, but before you get that far make sure the Battery cables are connected very tight. If loose the car won't start or do anything. Also make sure the battery cable is grounded.

SOURCE: 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora won't start

if the car sat for two years and was never started.... the motor could very well be seized.... to get at the starter .... is usually done from the bottom. If you can removed the starter... test it to see if it's working.... something else you can try if you can see the starter ... is to tap it gently with a hammer while someone attempts to start it...

SOURCE: Once every 2 weeks the car is very hard to start

This sounds like a ignition control module they are inremittent problems that are difficult to diagnose, I am surprised tha tno code has been stored however, before spending more money try this when the car acts up pull ou a plug and see if the spark is week or not present at all hopefully you will have an assistant present to turn ove rthe car when it happens this is going to eliminate the ignition system as the cause, move on to the fuel pressure, on some cars there is a cold start sensor that causes the fuel injectors to stay open longer upon start up.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora will start sometimes and other times it won't, I replaced the starter and still the same.

If the engine cranks but won't start, the battery and starter are out of the picture.
When it won't start, someone will need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.

95 Olds. Aurora - Starter clicks, does not turn over..

check the battery...maybe the amp hours is not
sufficient...not original recommended battery....inconsistency in starting...the solenoid is a switch...which may need cleaning....the starter motor may be full of carbon dust....causes a short to earth and pulls battery power on startup....a big neglected area in car maintenance...
