check your fuel filter under the left side of the vehicle on the frame. if this proves to good, your next step might be checking your catalytic convertor. have you checked all of your vacuum lines? one thing you can do is have your friend inside to start the vehicle and while it is idling and the air cleaner is off, look inside at the fuel injector and you throttle it and see if the injector is spraying fuel.

How much tranny oil capacity for Chevy silverado 2500 1989. The hose to the transmission came off and all the transm. fluid came out. I have replaced the fluid, but it isn't shifting very well anymore. ...

should hold roughly 8 quarts with the converter still full. Run the trans through the gears to get it warm, then check the dipstick while running. I would bet its still low.

Air bubbles in trans fluid

If you have too much fluid it can lead to foaming. I would check that first.

Grinding in and out of 4 wheel drive

You say 'new' truck, 09? or new used? I have had 3 Fords, 3 w/ manual trans. case, if you go into 4x4 Low range, you must come to a complete stop before shifting the trans. case to 4x4 mode, and I always put trans (automatic) in neutral before slipping into 4x4, it engages smoothly, no grinding. 4x4 high range can be put in while moving, but I would let off the gas pedal, shift to 4x4 high range, then resume accelerating. If there is any grinding going on doing it as above, something isn't right. Check the trans. case fluid level also, to make sure that's not an issue.

Trans does not have a dip stick, will have to put on rack and check from underneath. That should have a 4t40 or 4t45e trans automatic.

Make sure your transmission fluid is up to level, if it is, put a little bit on your fingers from the dipstick, does it smell burnt? if your unsure rub it between your fingers if it looks more black than red and feels gritty its burnt, try changing fluid and filter if that doesnt help your forward clutches are out, ive had some luck with trans-X in situations like this but its rare that it helps and almost never lasts hope i could help
