Photo timing mark - Hyundai Motor 1998 Sonata

Without knowing any additional information, it sounds as if the timing is off. If the engine didn't run rough before changing the timing belt, the installation is the cause.

Check out the photos below, which show the timing marks for the crankshaft timing and the camshaft. Make sure all marks meet as shown in the photos.

Also, make sure the belt tension is adequate, because if the tension is not up to spec, that could be causing the problem or a separate issue will eventually come up, if the belt slips. It's always best to change the tension and the idler pulley, when doing a timing belt change.

Goggle above info and its Timing marks you may find a good photo to show the cam or cams? positions and the Crank
position. Everything must be exactly aligned with the marks on the motor itself. Otherwise your library probably has a repair manual.

china belt off fleabay? with none?

first the warning. at step 13
Set the timing sprockets so that the crankshaft and camshaft sprocket timing marks align with the timing marks on the oil pump and front plate. When the timing marks are align, no pistons are at TDC for the compression stroke. Valve damage may result if the sprockets and belt are out of alignment.

there is a tensioner that as a locking pin,.do you know how to do that?

install : step 1 and 2

1. Align the groove on the crankshaft timing pulley with mark on the oil pump.
2. Align the marks on the camshaft timing pulleys with the dots on the front plate.

photo 1 shows crank marked at 3pm cog wheel. and pump base.
photo 2 shows.

YOU NEED A CHILTON OR HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL TO LOOK AT PHOTOS FOR TIMING MARKS LOCATION ON CAMSHAFT SPROCKETS AND CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET.

TO REPLACE TIMING CHAIN YOU NEED EITHER HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL OR CHILTON REPAIR TO SEE PHOTOS OF TIMING MARKS ON TIMING CHAINS SPROCKETS AND CRANKSHAFT TIMING GEAR AND TIMING MARKS ON TIMING GEAR COVER NEAR CRANKSHAFT PULLEY.

the timing marks are on the crank pulley. set at 15 degrees.

timing belt marks are on the edge of the belt and the pulleys (3).
