Does the 2000 4.0 liter Jeep Cherokee Sport need to have timing belt replaced and at approx what mileage intervals?

There are no jeeps with a timing belt. Your 4.0 has a timing chain and it will last the life of the engine as long as you take care of the engine.

How do I release the tension on the belt to remove and replace the alternator on a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport?

Very simple....just loosen the mount bolt on the pivot arm and adjusting bolts....the bolts that mount the alternator....the slack will allow you to remove the alternator....installation....bolt on your replacement alternator and place your belt on the pulley. Pull on the alternator to give it tension and then tighten bolts at the same time...have an extra set of hands for this.

2003 jeep cherokee 2.8 CRD engine sqeeking noise

It could be that you got some water on your serpentine belt and that will cause it to squeak. Try buying a can of "belt dressing" from an auto store and spray it all over your belt and see if that will stop it. It's a cheap and easy thing to try before replacing expensive parts. Hope this works for you, let me know how it goes. Goodluck!
