The battery is dead and/or the connections on the battery posts are corroded. Remove the battery post connections and clean the contact surfaces with sand paper and reassemble. Charge the battery while you have it disconnected and after cleaning and reassembly it should work fine. Batteries do get old so yours may need to be replaced if it will not charge.
Testimonial: "Hi. Thanks for the advice. However, I am an old-school mechanic. I know how to troubleshoot non-computer issues very well. it is not the battery - it is more complex than that. Do you have another solution or does someone else have a solution?"
Bad starter solenoid or starter brushes. You dont say if the motor turns over. A 1989 vehicle could easily need a new starter. computer is low amps and would not cause dim dash by itself.
HI JOe.
Hi Joe. Was intermittent at first - would start and then not start. I an going to use a remote starter switch and see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Sounds like a bad connection or battery. Try jumpstarting with another vehicle.
