My battery was low and when I tried to start my car it died. But the key is stuck in the ignition on the #2 position, the shifter is stuck, no brake lights, no door locks, etc. I charged the battery but still only get cluster lights.
I have an 08 Chevy cobalt. When my battery dies the key gets stuck in the ignition. There's a little flappy thing on the right hand side of the steering column. It opens and there's a button you push in to get the key to come out.
Sounds like a lot of problems that shouldn't have been affected from a low or dead battery. But try moving the steering wheel back & forth, sometimes the column lock gets a little wedged and prevents the key/ign from turning.
Hi there all the things you explain are and need power to operate, make sure your battery has 12.6 volts or more and try again , if your battery doesn't have that voltage then you will need a new battery, hope this helps

On this car there is a cable that is tied into the shifter, so you have to turn the keep to be able to take it out of gear. Its all in 1 big housing. Usually to remove the ignition cylinder it has to be in the run position and you push a little key down to remove it. Since your key won't turn you have to figure out a way to do it.However once you replace the ignition cylinder your shifter will move and you will be able to start the car. To get to the ignition switch/cylinder you have to remove the molding around the instrument panel and then the instrument cluster. Then you can unbolt the assembly in the front with a 10mm socket. lift the assembly up and now you have access to change it out. Hope this helps.
