How to fix 98 dodge caravan electrical / battery problems

Bought this 98 over a year ago. I first stated to notice intermittent electrical issues like ABS light going on and off, along with dash lights. Problems progressively got worse until cruise control didn\'t work at all, back windshield wiper went out, auto door locks stopped working altogether, and then the gauges stopped working altogether. I had my battery checked and found it was going bad. when I replaced the battery it fixed some of my issues. Most notably the cruise control and back windshield wiper. Then I replaced the IOD fuse and left it out for 30 minutes before replacing. This fixed everything else including my radio which had stopped working completely. The only issue I still had was that my ABS light still came on intermittently. Everything continued to work fine for about six months until I noticed the dash lights going off, and my radio going out intermittently. I had my battery checked and it was already bad after just 7 months. I replaced the battery again just yesterday and so far everything is working. My question is, what could the underlying problem be? I\'ve heard the BCM could be bad, but would that cause my batteries to be dying out so soon? I\'d like to have some idea what is wrong with it before I take it in to get fixed. I\'m trying to avoid a lot of expensive repairs that don\'t solve the problem!!

Alternator voltage may be to hight that make the battery to dry out,or maximum output amp not ok and battery cant be fully charge

Testimonial: "When my battery was tested, the gadget they used said my alternator was good. Could the voltage be too high even if it tests ok?"

i cant fix your problem but if you take it a chrysler dealer they can test your electrical system and probably tellyou what the problem is. I did it to mine and it worked the test was around 80 dollars which you'll probably spend replacing things

Thanks...I'll probably do that, I just want to research before I go in so I don't get taken advantage of.

You are not alone, this is an exclusive and common problem with Dodge and Chrysler products. And yes it most likely is your control module. It was called the WTM years ago. Wiper Timing Module

98 dodge caravan problems

I had the same issue with my dodge caravan and after several attempts by the dealer to fix it, it turned out to be a broken wire. They replaced the relay and it would work for a while and then go blank again. Have the wires checked thoroughly.
