Whats wrong with Helen?

Yes thats her name. She's a EX coupe 1.6 VTECH. Was driving down the road and the speedometer dropped to zero. Car kept running fine then the rpm gauge dropped to zero and she died. Popped the clutch a few times she restarted but died right away. Had to get a tow home. When my friend came over to look at her she started right up. NO check engine light ever came on.. She is still starting and running but still no speedometer or odometer. The MPH gauge jumps all over the place and when it starts jumping the odometer starts to work then they quit again. The rpm gauge has been working all the time still though.Three guys told me it sounds like the module thingy in the ignition distributer.

Also, Helen never lost all power. All my dash lights and stuff still worked.

The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.

My pontiac g6 front wheel locked up,I've put new calipers/brakes, new bearings and checked the cv joint. nothing has worked any ideas of whats wrong?

Problem can be in the transaxle (transmission)

Have you checked your trans fluid level? If it is too low, the internals could have seized.

Speedometer went haywire and car stopped

define haywire.?

dead, off, and is odometer off too?
stopped, you mean the car stalled?

when the engine stalls you see the following (driving school 101)
1: quiet , now. from engine.
2: steering and braking get harder. up to 6 times harder.
3: RPM tachometer shows 0 RPM.
4: Speed drops and lands on zero as car stops or you run out of down hill free right.

so did engine stall? does it restart,?

While driving my 1.6 focus the speedometer goes to zero and the radio volume goes low. Whats up?

I can give you most of your answer and it depends on the Radio. Ford has a speed-compensated Radio that will adjust the volume of the Radio to the speed of the car. This feature means you will not have to adjust a radio down at a stoplight or when going to a drive-thru.

Then when the car speeds up and engine and road noise increase, so does the volume on the Radio. So you will not have to adjust the volume of the Radio when you drive.

You need to fix the speedometer to get the radio to work correctly. You probably have a sensor connector or the sensor itself making the problem. Go to an Autoparts store and get a sensor and it will probably work fine.

Was driving down the road and the tac started jumping then dropped to zero then the speedometer dropped aswell got freaked and parked it but neither gauge is working at the moment and i am not sure whats...

The two gauges work off two different sensors. The tac runs off the crank sensor. the speedometer runs off the speed sensor. Since your car still runs..ie the crank sensor is still good. I would guess that your Instrument panel has shorted. This is just a guess because there are other factors, like wiring that would have to be checked. It is still safe to drive, just watch how fast you are going compared to traffic.

Why does the tach and speedometer now spike when starting engine?

depends. newer vehicles do this just for effect, basically for you to go "ooooohhh" however with older vehicles ( pre 2006) this could be a code that the computer system is giving you, if the needle spikes all the way to the end of the speedometer/tachometer then back down to zero, its most likely effect. but if the needle spikes to 3 numbers (ex-90, 60, 30. then back to zero) its trying to tell you theres something wrong under the hood, could be as simple as a fuse or 02 sensor...

I have a 98 dodge ram 2500 four wheel drive was working great then overnite the weather dropped below zero and never got above six degrees all the next day and when i started to use four wheel drive every...

You say it got cold, but are the roads snow- or ice-covered? If you are driving on dry, hard surfaced roads in four-wheel drive (regardless of the temperature), you are putting excess wear on your transfer case and front differential, and yes, you can get some clunking, especially in tight turns.
