The little metal rod that goes from the key part of the door lock to the electrical switch has come off ,no doubt the plastic clip that holds it has broken

I have a similar problem on a 1998 Accent. Problem is, the driver door is now locked and there are no aparent way to open the doorpannel to get to this unit. The key is not turning in its barrel.

Very difficult to do unless you remove the drivers seat and because of the shrouds around the lock mechanism its impossible to unlock with a coat hanger down the window trim ,unlike CSI who can do it in 3 seconds ,hahah I had a similar problem with a focus and the key was lost i couldnt open this car for love nor money in the end i had to drill the lock out ,the electric solonoid for the central locking held the door locked and i i tried as i got in through a back window winding it down with a coat hanger .Only way i can see is to take the drivers seat out then you can remove the door trim

Door lock receiver on a2001 Pontiac Grand am

Do they work with the key fob, do you have one of those? They lock when put into gear an unlock when put into park because the BCM - body control module does that .

Door Lock System Components
The power door lock system consists of the following components:
• Driver door lock switch
• Front Passenger door lock switch
• Body Control Module (BCM)
• Relays: Driver Door Unlock -- on vehicles with RFA, Door Unlock, and Door Lock
• Door Lock fuse 15A
Door Lock System Controls
The power door lock system can be controlled by any of the following:
• A power door lock switch activation
• A keyless entry command -- if equipped with keyless entry

Driver and Passenger Door Lock Operation
When any of the door lock switches is pressed to the lock position, the BCM door lock/unlock signal circuit changes from an idle voltage of ~3.4 volts to 0.0 volts generating a lock command. The BCM then applies battery positive voltage to the Door Lock Relay, which in turn applies battery positive voltage to the Door Lock Actuator lock circuit of all the Door Lock Actuators. Since the Door Lock Actuator unlock circuits are held to ground through the resting Door Unlock Relay(s), the actuators execute the lock command, locking the doors.
The lock function can also be accomplished by the BCM having received a keyless entry door lock command, if the vehicle is equipped with keyless entry.

Driver and Passenger Door Unlock Operation

When any of the door lock switches is pressed to the unlock position, the BCM door lock/unlock signal circuit changes from an idle voltage of ~3.4 volts to ~1.7 volts generating an unlock command. The BCM then applies battery positive voltage to the Door Unlock Relay and the Driver Door Unlock Relay when equipped with keyless entry, the relay(s) in turn apply battery positive voltage to the Door Lock Actuator unlock circuit of all the Door Lock Actuators. Since the Door Lock Actuator lock circuits are held to ground through the resting Door Lock Relay, the actuators execute the unlock command, unlocking the doors.
The unlock function can also be accomplished by the BCM having received a keyless entry door unlock command, if the vehicle is equipped with keyless entry. Keyless entry personalization allows the driver door to be unlocked individually before unlocking the passenger doors. When this feature is active, the BCM will require a repeated unlock command to unlock the passenger doors.

Automatic Door Lock/Unlock
The automatic door lock/unlock function is a Vehicle Personalization feature with the following four programmable modes of operation:
The automatic door lock feature is disabled.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the ignition ON.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the ignition ON, and all of the doors Unlock when the vehicle is shifted into Park.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the ignition ON, and only the driver door Unlocks when the vehicle is shifted into Park.
For information on programming the automatic door locks, refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

On a 2001 Ford Focus SE five speed where is the automatic door lock relay located

Sorry Andrew , no BCM on this vehicle . The Central Security Module is incharge of power door locks . Central Security Module For additional information, refer to Section 419-10 .
The central security module is equipped with a battery back-up which holds the programmed transmitter(s) memory in the event of the vehicle battery disconnection.
Principles of Operations The Door Switch Lock Function When a door lock switch is moved into the lock position or a door lock cylinder is rotated to the lock position, the door lock switch grounds the lock circuit input to the central security module. The central security module then provides 12 volts to one side of the door lock actuators contained in the door latch unit and simultaneously grounds the other side of the door lock actuators. This completes the door lock actuator circuit, causing the door lock actuators to rotate a cam assembly, which then locks the doors.

The Door Switch Unlock Function When a door lock switch is moved into the unlock position, the door lock switch grounds the unlock circuit input to the central security module. The central security module then provides 12 volts to the opposite side (relative to locking the door) of the door lock actuator(s) contained in the door latch unit and simultaneously grounds the other side of the door lock actuator(s). This completes the door lock actuator circuit, causing the door lock actuator(s) to rotate a cam assembly in the opposite direction, which then unlocks the door(s). The 12 volts which the central security module provides to the door lock actuator(s) are provided to each door lock actuator from the individual pins on the central security module connector.

Keyless Entry When a remote transmitter button is depressed, it transmits the appropriate command to the central security module as a radio frequency. The central security module receives the command from the remote transmitter through an antenna, which is incorporated in the central security module.
When the central security module receives a command from the remote transmitter, it then sends the appropriate output to control the desired devices. These outputs devices include:
  • The front and rear door lock units.
  • Central timer module (CTM).
  • The liftgate release motor.
  • The right and left side turn signal lamp(s).
The central security module sends a signal to the CTM when courtesy lamp illumination is required.
Computer Operated Locks Each front door lock actuator contains a bipolar motor that controls the lock and unlock linkage. The lock/unlock lever of both front door interior handles use linkage to actuate the lever lock switch located inside each front door lock actuator. Each lever lock switch remains in the unlock position until lock/unlock lever of the interior door handle is moved to the lock position. This action toggles the lever lock switch to the lock position. The central security module uses only one electrical input for both lever lock switches. The central security module cannot determine whether the driver or passenger door lever lock switch was actuated. Therefore, actuating the lock feature from either front door will have the same affect of locking all doors. Actuating the unlock feature will not unlock any other door.
The door lock control switches for both front doors also use only one input to the central security module.
Both rear passenger doors contain a rear door lock actuator that controls only electric lock or unlock of the door. Actuating the lock/unlock lever at either rear passenger door will have no effect on other doors.
The panic feature of the remote transmitter sounds the vehicle horn when the vehicle is not equipped with anti-theft. If the vehicle is equipped with anti-theft feature, a separate horn is sounds for the panic feature.

Door locks on the passenger side will not open with the remote

The master central locking module may be faulty. If the remote still operates the drivers side door lock and it will manually unlock with the key, it's possible the central lock mechanism in the drivers door is no longer sending a signal to all the other doors to lock/unlock. If all the door locks operate when you manually unlock the drivers door, the issue may be the remote receiver unit. It would help to know what car you're driving as some vehicles have inherent faults that are common and there is usually a go-to method of rectifying the problem.

12/6/2010 2003 bmw 325xi: Key does not manually lock/unlock driver door...but still works in ignition and trunk...central locking system still works to lock/unlock all doors(including driver) from...

If the key turns in the lock, but does nothing, then the linkage has become disconnected or broken. The key is mechanical to the lock and the lock has a electrical switch to operate the central locking unit. Could be a simple broken clip from the lock barrel. Hope this helps

Hi I have a porsche boxster 1997 and my passenger door wont open at all, when i go to unlock the driver's side unlocks and the car beeps twice. Please help

Might be the central locking system. Try using the key in the door (rather than the remote control) to deactivate the security system. Also make sure that the center console is completely closed (this is part of the central locking system).

Central locking

Resolving this problem will require removing the door panel in question, and checking for voltage at the solenoid when the unlock button is pressed.
If there is 12V at the positive wire to the solenoid, but the door does not attempt to unlock, you must replace the solenoid.
Doors are not fused individually, so the fact the other doors are operating properly rules out fuses.
Remove the door panel, and check for voltage - if there is no voltage, the wiring is suspect. This would require more in-depth troubleshooting - checking wires for continuity to ground, and overall continuity.
Start with the door. Re-post your findings and I can help you additionally.
