Sounds like either something has completely obstructed the air flowing into the engine which is unlikely or your Timing belt skipped and bent all the Valves on one Camshaft or both. Pull the Timing Covers off and see if the timing marks line up when on #1 Cylinder is on Top Dead Center. If they are not on a 98 and older you will have bent Valves. On the 99 and newer the exhaust cam has a Variable Timing hub and the cam could have turned leaving the timing marks in place and bending the exhaust Valves. Sorry for the bad news.

SOURCE: one cylinder has zero compression. took head off

OK!... did you do a cylinder 'leak down test'?.. .if not, do it! If any 'unacceptable' leakage, have the head REDONE! NOW!.. you must BE SURE the valve timing is accurate!... Go to www.hmaservice.com and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Optima no start after timing belt, crank, cam sensor replacement

did you use aftermarket crank sensor? if so that might be your problem. dealer has several different ones, by providing vin number, but there is only one after market for all optimas 01-05. try to connect thick pink wire and thick orange wire together on the ignition failure sensor. you might have the same problem as me. good luck.

SOURCE: Engine ran fine. Stopped it. Could not restart.

try spraying starting fluid in the breather and see if it tries to start if so check fuel lines etc. to make sure that it is getting fuel to it.
next would be check injectors to see if they are getting voltage to them.

Testimonial: "Your tip was helpful, but the engine did not try to start with the ether sprayed into the air intake after it was removed from the air box. "

SOURCE: dead cylinder....timming is right, getting fuel,

cant happen, you missed something, if you have spark, fuel and compression the cylinder will hit, go check again, when doing the compression test kill the spark and lock the throttle wide open. most common thing we see on the 1.0L 3cylinder is burnt valves most common cause is the wrong motor oil the valve lifters can not release the oil back threw the bleader hole if you use to heavey a motor oil, we see owners change the oil and use 10W-30 or 10W-40 and usely within 5000 miles the valves will burn, if you want to use the heaver oil then you need to replace the lifters with an updated part number that has the abilty to use the heaver oil.

Have a 95 pathfinder v6. Was running fine and needed waterpump. My buddy is a mechanic and said he wanted to change the timing belt at the same time. He disturbed the motor by manually moving cams and...

You must remove the timing belt and reset all positions carefully taking care to not bend valves when turning engine. It is already possible you may have bent valves

Timing belt limp home mode

If the timing belt breaks the engine will not run! the timing belt is what keeps the crank and cams in "time" if the belt breaks the crankshaft can no longer turn the cams which will not allow fuel to get in, exhaust to get out, or compression to occur.

Car dies while running

You say the timing belt is intact, so I assume you have checked compression.
Have you checked base fuel pressure and are you getting spark to the plugs ?

06 Passat 2.0 Turbo - Died on Highway, no warning.

You need to check that the timing belt is infact ok, they can easily strip teeth off and they look ok but don't turn the cam/crank as they should, Remove the timing belt cover and put a socket on the end of the crankshaft, slowly turn it out checking that the cam shaft is moving as well, Next remove the rocker cover and make sure the cam shaft is intact.

Ive been trying to set the timing on a 95' volvo 850. first replaced water pump 2 days before. finances kept me from replaceing any addition componants at that time. now im paying for it. the belt broke....

It is possible to set the timing wrong....if the belt broke well running I believe this is an interference motor..meaning if the timing is off the cylinder can move up and smack a Valve being exhaust or intake. which means a valve can break or bend cause lack of seal thus no compression. When setting the timing you want to align your marks with Cylinder # 1 it needs to be on the compression stroke..you can do this by removing cyl 1 spark plug and rotating the crankshaft with your finger over the spark plug hole you will feel air press against your finger meaning all valves are closed and your in compression stroke. Then line up your marks and you should have it...I would consider purchasing a compression tester to make sure no damage to the cylinder head....good luck hope this helps

Drove My 98 Frontier 4X4 home and was running fine...went to start it and it seemed to studder when I turned it over and now just spins like no compression on any cylinder...pulled valve cover and both...

The symptoms tell you that the cams are not being turned at all--folks that lose a timing belt know the feeling when the belt breaks. Watch the cams while someone turns the starter--you may have sheared a key in the crankshaft sprocket so that the cams don't move, but the chains are tight. Hopefully, the engine is a 'non-interference' design so that you won't have to deal with bent valves or 'punched through' pistons. That will be a major repair if so. It might be cheaper to replace the engine with one from a wrecking yard if it is an interference design. Hope this helps!

I'm loocking for advisore in order to set the engine time

What car is it? If you timing belt is not broken, just ton turn the crankshaft because could damage the head valves. So remove the head as is, without turning the cams or the crankshaft. The when you have the head out, set the block on TDC, this is the first piston (close to the timing belt) on the top and the head on position por the TDC and is here that we need to know what car is your and probably we need the Chiltons book!. to set the time again.

HONDA CRANKS LIKE IT HAS NO COMPRESSION OR BROKEN TIMING BELT .

Remove the valve cover, and watch the cams while cranking it. My best guess is that one if them is not turning. This would explain why there is only compression in once cylinder. Sure the timing belt may be in tact, but if the cam guide pin is sheered off, and bolt that holds gear to the cam is loose, it will cause this.
