It may appear if there is a particular sensor fails.
Try stopping the indication using the following technique.
Sometimes the problem could be solved.

If you can get an OBD 2 scanner off eBay (US$ 6), you could be able to communicate with your car ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using the smart-phone app.

So that, there is a chance to CLEAR all the error indications.

After that, if problem still persists, it means the vehicle need full scan (you can't do this at home, probably seek a vehicle garage).

Depending on type of SRST, the air bag module may have detected something that in case of accident, it may prevent the airbags to deploy.
Have the car scanned for error codes. If the the warning light is ON, there sure is an error code.
Remember that some manufacturers (according to local laws), program the ECM SRST system to issue a warning at certain mileage or time, just to remind you that it is time to replace the air bag assemblies at the steering wheel and dashboard...

(Ouch... this may be expensive!)

SOURCE: air bag warning light

It is malfunction indicator

DIAGNOSIS WITH SCAN TOOL
CHECK PROCEDURES 1. Connect the Hi-Scan Pro to the vehicle data link connector located underneath the dash panel. 2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and turn on the Hi-Scan Pro . 3. Check for diagnostic trouble codes. 4. If a fault code is found, then replace the appropriate component. Never attempt to repair the component. 5. If the Hi-Scan Pro finds that a component of the system is faulty, there is a possibility that the fault is not in the components but in the SRS wiring or connector. e918f61.gif
The SRS airbag system has sophisticated electrical and electronic components. Therefore the airbag operating components should be handled very carefully. SRSCM (Supplement Restraint System Control Module) SRSCM determines when to deploy the airbag module by sensing the frontal and side impact force through the built in sensor SRSCM.

SOURCE: Chronic problem with airbag light staying on.

Not sure of the year of your car, but there was a recall to resecure the harness connector. If it is 2005 the entire airbag harness should be replaced, Sorry only the dealer can access the air bag info.

SOURCE: Air bag light stays on

If your airbag light comes on it means its not working. Some of the newer airbag systems have weight sensors under the seats and anything lodged under them can disable the passenger airbag and possibly cause the light to go on. If there are no other symptoms, and nothing impeding the airbags then the car thinks the airbag wont work. If you are concerned for your son's safety, take it to a qualified mechanic and have them check/replace your airbag. Good Luck!

SOURCE: My "Air Bag" light will not go off. How do I reset the light ??

We had the same problem. Turned out to be the alternator failing. Replaced it and problem went away. That was nearly 13 months ago.

SOURCE: my airbag light stays on

I just had my car worked on in one shop, a HYUNDAI ATOS 2000 they fixed a bad windshield wiper mechanism, but after the repair, my airbag light remained illuminated,
the garage mechanic tried with 2 diagnostic computers to
'reboot' my cars own computer, but neither of his devices could communicate with my car,
I had to go to another garage with a proper computer
the repair took only 5 seconds!!
sobs!, they charged me $50 for the 'work'......the first garage evidenlty, touched something, and I had to pay the bill......live & learn,.
before this I tried all the 'tricks' like disconnecting the battery,
first neg, then pos, nothing else worked, damned computers!!

My airbag lite stays on in my hyundai 2003 santa fe what does this mean

A solid air bag light indicates the air bag computer detects a fault in the air bag system. If the light is on the air bags won't deploy in the event of an accident. The computer will have to be scanned to determine what the problem is.

Air bag light stays on, never deployed

If you have any doubts about your ability to safely work on an air bag system, you should have the dealer (or a qualified repair shop) repair your air bag problem. Either way, it should be repaired. Your air bag system may be disabled anytime the warning lamp is on.
Your two problems are unrelated.
