Alarm wont set 2008 jeep commander

I don't know if my alarm is on or not.Alarm indicator light does not flash when I push the remote lock button, if I push the panic button it goes off. Tried to set it off by putting the key in the door and unlock it does nothing. By the way my remote is what I put in the ignition to start the vehicle. The actual metal key only opens the door.

I received 1 key. The dealer that I purchased my Jeep from said that he had a new key made for me before I drove to Tulsa, OK to pick it up maybe that has something to do with it. When I push the lock button the horn beeps and the lights flash like its supposed to. I don't know how to set if off so that I know that it's actually working or not.

the alarm monitors many points on the car, are you saying you wish test (breach) each alarm point? or what? 8 points in all. read page 20 and 21. see the 16second rule, exiting car with alarm set, that is one test. want more? one other trick, not tried by me (i can thing of many) is to arm the car with the fob and driver window down, then reach in and open the door, past window , at inside, and open it from the the inside, if the dash lamp fails to show the red lamp flash ,as you arm it with the fob, that would mean its smarter then us. (dig?)

The alarm will set when you use the remote keyless entry transmitter to lock the doors and liftgate or when you use the power door lock switch while the door is open. After all the doors are locked and closed, a red light (located in the instrument cluster) will flash rapidly for about 16 seconds to signal that the system is arming. During this 16 second pre-arm period, opening any door or the liftgate will cancel the arming. If the system successfully arms, the red light will flash at a slower rate to indicate the alarm is set

if this fails, on BOTH fobs, get service or use a SCAN tool to read the DTC errors. not having 2 fob (3 is best) invites the battery going dead and having problems. replace the battery. the book you lost, on page 25,shows how to replace the FOB battery, RKE device.

The car came with 2 RKE FOBs
are both dead.?
alway have 3 FOB if not you can not reprogram a new one. self.
can cost you $300 for more to tow your car to the dealer if the 1 fob dies. never run one fob. or bad happens.
put in a new battery in the FOB for door issues
the transponder part does not use the battery .
the transponder must be good, or the car would never run.
the jeep cuts fuel after 2 seconds if the transponder fails.

SOURCE: Cant get 1996 jeep grand cherokee to start after alarm stopped

The alarm might have a relay to kill the ignition. Disconnect the negative or ground from the battery, wait five minutes then connect it again. This is to try and restart the alarm. Then lock and unlock the car to get the remote in sync. Try and operate your vehicle now and let me know.

SOURCE: The remote on my 2008 Jeep Commander is totally

try replacing remote batteries, but must have a second programmed key to reset first one in case its gets uncoded, best advise do not take long time to replace battery, if problem persist have a good honest mechanic inspect door key cylinder security switch if it is not disconnected, but before you do this, if right side front door or rear door has cylinder try opening vehicle from this doors, if they unlock vehicle and alarm doesn't go off you might have problems inside driver's door cylinder switch, on this year vehicle must use STAR SCANNER from chrysler jeep dodge to solve problems

The chirp comes from the alarm system itself. it may be a electrical short in the alarm system, or a damage in the alarm itself. u need an alarm shop or a good tech. wish I was there.

How to set & cancel theft deterrent system or how to set & cancel security...

Theft deterrent system (on some models)

Theft deterrent system is designed to deter vehicle theft. The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn when it detects abnormalities such as follows:

• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The batter terminal is disconnected and then reconnected
• The system control is disconnected and then reconnected.
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn if someone attempts to damage or break into your car.

Setting the system

You can set the system with or without the impact sensor function. For details, see "Canceling the impact sensor" below.

1. Turn the ignition key to "LOCK" and remove it.
2. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle
3. Push the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once. At this time, the turn signal lights flashes once and the security indicator light comes on.

The system is set after 30 seconds. At this time, the security indicator light start flashing slowly.

Once the system is set, you cannot start the engine until you cancel the system.

The system will not be set in the following cases.

• When any of the door is open; security horn sounds for 1 second, close the door and set the system again.
• When the hood is open; close the hood securely.

Canceling the Impact Sensor

The impact sensor can be cancelled to prevent false alarms from being triggered incase of the following conditions:

• When parked in the noisy area
• The vehicle body or glass is subjected to a strong impact from the (such as in highly pressurized car wash).
• When transporting by a car carrier or ferry.

To cancel the impact sensor;

1. Lock the door by pushing the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once, and turn signal light flash once
2. Then push the lock (set) switch twice within 5 seconds. At this time, the turn signal flash 5 times to indicate the impact sensor function is disable.

The impact sensor is deactivated as long as the system remained armed.

Canceling the system

The system will be cancelled by the following two ways:

• Turn the ignition key from "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch

If the turn signal lights flash 3 times, the system has been alarmed. Check to see if there is any abnormality with your vehicle.

If any of the doors is not opened within 30 seconds, all doors will be automatically locked and the system will be set.

When the system is set

Activating the system; When the system detects abnormalities such as follows, it flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the turn lights only (depending on the model) and sounds the security horn and vehicle horn of 30 seconds.

• Unlocking any door without using wireless control
• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The battery terminal is disconnected and then reconnected.
• The system control assembly is disconnected and then reconnected
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

Reactivating the alarm;

Once set, the system automatically resets the alarm after the alarm stops.

The alarm will activate again under the same circumstances described in "Activating the system".

Stopping the Alarm

The alarm will be stopped by the following two ways;

• Turn the ignition key from the "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.

The system can be cancelled by these ways at the same time.

If the battery becomes discharged due to the vehicle being unused, for a long time etc., when the battery is recharged or replaced, the system will activate the alarm. If this happens, immediately unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch, and the alarm will stop.

Testing the system

1. Set the system
2. Insert a wireless remote control key into the key hole on the driver's door handle, and unlock the door.
3. Open the door, and an alarm will sound.
4. Stop the alarm by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.
5. Repeat this operation for the front passenger's door.

Good luck.

How do i reset my alarm on a 97 jeep Grand

Here is excerpt from the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Service Manual ... i know you posted under 1997 JGC but this information may be helpful ... by "reset alarm" i believe you meant disarming the alarm?

Arming
Passive arming of the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) occurs when the vehicle is exited with the key removed from the ignition switch, the headlamps are turned off, and the doors are locked using power lock switch. The power lock switch will not function if the key is in the ignition switch or the headlamps are on with the driver’s door open. The VTSS will not arm if either front door or the liftgate are locked using the key in the lock cylinder.
Active arming of the VTSS occurs when the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is used to lock the vehicle, even if the doors and/or the liftgate are open when the RKE transmitter Lock button is depressed. However, the VTSS arming will not be complete until all the doors and the liftgate are closed.
Following successful passive or active VTSS arming, the VTSS set lamp on the top of the instrument panel will flash rapidly for about 15 seconds after the illuminated entry system times out. This indicates that the VTSS arming is in progress. If the light stays on steadily during the arming, it indicates that the hood switch is closed (the hood is open). The VTSS will still arm if the hood is open, but the engine compartment will not be protected. Once the 15 second arming function is complete, the set lamp will flash at a slower rate to indicate that the VTSS is armed. Disarming Passive disarming of the Vehicle Theft Security Sytem (VTSS) occurs when the vehicle is unlocked using the key to unlock either front door or the liftgate. Active disarming of the VTSS occurs when the vehicle is unlocked by depressing the Unlock button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. Once the alarm has been activated (horn sounding, exterior lights flashing, and the the engine no-run feature), either disarming method will also deactivate the alarm. Depressing the Panic button on the RKE transmitter will also disarm the VTSS, but the horm will sound and teh exterior lamps will flash for about three minutes as a part of the Panic feature function. ..." And as an additional note, if you have the courtesy interior lights set at 30 seconds like i do, you have to wait until lights go out (with alarm still sounding) before you can disarm the alarm via passive disarm method... what a pain when you don't have the actual RKE handy... Good Luck!

Alarm not working on 1999 jeep cherokee

If this is an after market alarm, the alarm is in the off position.
Look under the dash on the drivers side for a push button or switch.
Turn the key to the run position without starting the car, either push the button or move the switch in the opposite direction and turn the key off.
This should turn the alarm back on.

Jeep alarm will not turn off

The ignition security on/off is located at the trunk lock. unlock and lock rear gate and the alarm will turn off. My jeep sat in my drive for a month before a jeep tech told me this. It still triggers the security sometimes when I unlock the passenger door with the key and I go straight to the rear gate lock and it shuts off instantly.
