You could have a bad pump, or a leak somewhere in the system! The pump is usually located on the passenger side wheel well! From there, follow the air lines along the underneath side of the vehicle to the suspension unit! if there are no leaks to that point, you may have to replace the air bag on the rear. They are very expensive to replace also! My 89 Continental was $1400!

Having it hooked up to a factory scan tool would be your best bet . Check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . Without testing ,code scan ,we'd only be guessing .
Very complex , the untrained person hasn't got a pray of fixing this . You have no idea what your dealing with . Vehicle Dynamic Suspension The vehicle dynamic suspension consists of the following components:
  • Rear air suspension control (RAS) module (5A919)
  • Snorkel
  • Drier
  • Air compressor (5319)
  • Air suspension switch (5K761)
  • Solenoid valve (5311)
  • Air spring (5560)
  • Air suspension height sensor (5359)
  • Air line
  • Rear Air Suspension Control Module
A microprocessor controls the air suspension system. The microprocessor and its supporting hardware are contained in the rear air suspension control module. The rear air suspension control module responds to signals from various sensors in the vehicle to maintain the programmed ride height while the vehicle is either moving or stopped. The rear air suspension control module accomplishes this by opening and closing solenoid valves to control the amount of air in the air spring(s). The rear air suspension control module turns on the compressor by applying voltage through the compressor relay to inflate the air spring(s) and raise the vehicle. The rear air suspension control module opens the vent solenoid to lower the vehicle by releasing air from the air spring(s) in response to signal inputs from the air suspension height sensor(s).

What are the warning signs, if any, when the leveler (rear air suspension) is about to go out?

If a slow air leak has developed in either an air bag or in any of the tubing (there's a lot) or in the valve at the air pump, you will hear the air pump running more often.

Eventually, the pump will be unable to raise the car to the required height (working against the leak) within the time-out period (about a minute) and then it will give up, stop pumping, and a light on the dash will come on indicating an air suspension problem (or maybe on your relatively newer car, the digital dash may show an error message - I don't know).

I've had an '88, a '91, and a '94. Both the '91 and the '94 had air suspension faults at various times, and none of them were air bag leaks. I've had the valve at the pump stick and/or/leak on both cars, and the tubing spring a leak on one as well. Apparently the air bags are pretty well made and don't fail as often as the other components (in my experience).

My air suspension will not air up

your air pump has gone out. replace it and make sure none of your air springs are leaking since that could have been the cause for your pump to have gone out. constant running of the pump will over heat it and burn it out.

I have the air ride suspension and the pump is good but will not activate to air the bags up I can manually trip the relay switch to activate the pump but no air getting into the air bag suspension.

At the rear of the vehicle there are switches. If you look underneath you will see arms coming off them as they move away from the suspension they activate the pump. When the vehicle is level the arms contact and shut the pump down.

1998 crown vic air suspension compressor does not pump.

Sounds like the problem is in the air bag suspension, not the compressor. The air bags shouldn't be losing air when the car sits. The compressor adjusts the suspension level according to the load. The air bags have a valve similar to a blow up raft that allows air to pass through both ways. If when the car is running the compressor is constantly running and not turning off, the issue is within the air bags and/or the air line.

Air suspension is not working

It just happened to me. I took it to a spring shop and had the air bags replaced with coil springs. It is an identical fit from a Crown Vic and only cost $200.00 total! Too much can go wrong with other parts of the air suspension. The ride is the same.

BMW 528i s reg rear suspension

Check for pressure out of the air pump. If there, then the problem is a blown seal in the shock.
