Since fuel supply side have been changed, try looking into the ignition side. It will be much simpler if you scan your car for error codes. Less guesswork and lower repair cost. Without codes, next to check would be Crankshaft Position Sensor and Camshaft position Sensor. If both OK and all relays are OK, you should have spark.

More than likely it's the distributor. They have a tendency to build up corrosion and rust and have personally went through the same situation three weeks ago on a suburban. Check to see if you are getting spark from the distributor first. Have the ecm in the distributor checked at Oriellys for free. It's under the rotor and has two 8mm head bolts with wires plugged in at each end.

SOURCE: sluggish performance on 2000 Kia Sportage

My theory is that it could be the injectors clogging. You could first try running a higher octane fuel, then if that doesn't seem to help try using the minimal amount of gas, and add injector cleaner to the tank. If all of this fails to work you can take your vehicle to the dealership where they can run a system analysis on it and help you pinpoint the problem. Hope this was helpful. Please rate my solution, thanks.

SOURCE: fuel delivery problem - 2000 Kia Sportage 2WD -

If the pump is running but not putting out any fuel the strainer in the tank could be clogged causing it not to pick up fuel. Also check the fuel pressure regulator and make sure it is working correctly.

2000 kia sportage ,what is a ecm control switch

Not sure if there is one in the car. What it has is an EFI relay that controls power to the ECM and +12V supply to injectors, ignition coils, ignition amplifier and oxygen sensor heater. What really happened to your car?

Ecm control switch

No switch just EFI relay to supply power to ECM. If your ECM seems like it's not activating other system like fuel pump relay, ignition coil,etc.etc. check that your immobilizer has been disabled. Some immobilizers will disable the ECU totally. Newer models have RFID type keys that needs programming if damaged. Best to scan your car and get the error codes before replacing anything.

Changed timing belt on 2001 kia sportage but still runs rough

I would check the connectors on the coil packs, spark plugs and wires and replace them if they at all seem worn or tired. My 2000 sportage ran rough so I replaced the fuel filter, coil packs, spark plugs and wires, cleaned out the IAC valve, TPS, throttle body and intake tube, tightened the screws on the fuel pump access door under the right rear seat and cleaned the ground wire and the contact surface and I added 1 ground wire from the block to the firewall and 1 from the valve cover to the firewall. Your timing is more than likely right where it needs to be but the ignition may be slightly missing from a bad coil pack, dirty or fouled plugs or a bad plug wire.

2000 kia sportage will not start have replaced fuel pump

unplug ecm connector engine control module has faulty connectors due to pins I recommend to unplug and plug connector and try to start, module is located under passenger front seat frontal foot area you need to remove a cover before you do the actual disconnection touch the door striker to rid your
self of static electricity. also check relays for fuel pump and ecm power on right side of engine compartment (as you would sit on
driver seat) (buy kia relays) and for danerl p possible faulty ignition
coils and spark plugs due to arking, replaced spark plugs wires too, check valve cover for leaking oil into spark plugs possible codes po300 -po304 set .
