I need the radio unlock code for a 98 grand prix

The following instructions will allow you to reset any GM (General Motors), Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac theft lock radio.

Requirements: the theft lock radio must be in "LOC" mode.

Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition ON (The radio should display "LOC")
2. Hold down the Radio Presets 2 and 3 buttons for six seconds
3. The radio display changes from LOC to a three-digit number. Write this number down. You now have fifteen seconds to complete the next step.
4. Press the AM/FM button
5. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one.
6. You now have a six-digit number, the first three digits are from STEP 03 and the last three digits are form STEP 05
7. Call 1-800-537-5140
8. Press 1 then # (pound). You'll hear "Invalid Code, try again"
9. Press 139010 or 106010 or 206010 or 202107 then # (pound). You will be asked to enter your four or six digit code followed by *
10. Enter the number from STEP 6 then *
11. Listen to the four-digit number and write it down. It will be repeated twice
12. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
13. Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from STEP 11
14. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to "SEC". Your radio is now "un-locked" and usable.

If you fail to enter the correct code eight times, the radio goes into INOP mode. You have to wait an hour with the ignition on before the radio returns to LOC mode.

Hope this helps; keep in touch.

I want to extract my radio code before i remove the old battery and replace it on my 2004 Grand Prix.

The "Theftlock" theft deterrent system is a feature on all base and uplevel radios. There is no need to
program a security code into the radio as in past model years. The theft deterrent system now utilizes
class 2 serial data to determine if the radio is in the appropriate vehicle. Each time the radio receives
the "run" power mode message, it compares the VIN information it has stored to the VIN information
received from a module on the class 2 serial data circuit responsible for transmitting that information.
If a mis-match occurs, the radio display will indicate to the user the radio is locked. Once this takes
place, a DTC will set, the radio will not respond to any button presses and become inoperative. The
two scenarios able to cause this condition are:

  • A radio is installed from another vehicle.
  • A module which communicates on the class 2 serial data circuit which supplies VIN information to the radio is replaced and not properly setup with the correct VIN information for that vehicle.

I have a locked radio for a 2000 pontiac grand prix thanks to a battery exchange...can anyone help ...the 6 dig code is 292298

Hello! You have done half of the work already! You can take the code, and the VIN to your vehicle; and call your local GM dealership. Tell them that you need the unlock code for the radio, and they will ask you for that information.

Also - there are 2 modes to the TheftLock - "LOC" or "SEC" and "INOP". Once the anti-theft is activated, the radio display will show "LOC" or "SEC" - you then have 8 attempts to enter your code. If after 8 attempts you don't enter the correct code, the display will change to "INOP". It is only at this time that you will need to wait one hour, with the ignition ON; before you can retry. After that - you will have only 3 attempts before the radio enters "INOP" mode again.

Hope this helps and good luck!

How do i take out stock radio from 2008 pontiac grand prix

You have to have special keys to slide the radio out. They do that to keep people from stealing them. The problem is that GM was lazy and wired the radio into the information display. Removing the radio could cause the display to stop working. Better just go to a specialist and have them do it for you.

How do I put in a radio lock code for a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix?

The radio comes with a preassigned lock code that must be obtained from Pontiac. They will need you to follow these steps to retrieve two sets of numbers for them to call GM and obtain the assign lock code for your radio. STEP ONE: Press number 2 and number 3 simultaneously. Hold until the first set of numbers appear. Then press the AM/FM button on the radio for the last set of numbers to appear. Give those numbers to Pontiac, and they will call for the radio lock code. They will also provide you the steps to enter that code to unlock your radio.

My Theft Lock is stuck on and now it is in InOP stage

I suffered the same problem. Turn your ignition key to the ON position for 1 hour. This will reset the double lock feature on the radio to prevent theft. Once you leave your ignition key on for 1 hour, turn the key to the off position. Remove the key. Then turn the ignition key back to the ON position. You should then see "LOC" instead of "InOp". Then try the steps to enter your code again. Three incorrect tries will enable the double lock feature again, and you will have to repeat these steps to reset it.
