What dies it need
My daughter used her Equinox to jump another vehicle, afterwards the steering was stiff and the service stabilitrack light was on. The 80 amp fuse (GM part number 2268-9708) was blown.
The real reason for the blown fuse was that she did not connect the jumper cables to the battery but rather across the 80 amp fuse. The cover over the fuse box has a red + sign on it and thus she thought it was the battery. The battery is harder to get to, as it has an electronics module mounted on top of the battery cover. The battery is immediately forward of the fuse box. I wonder how many others have blown the fuse because of incorrectly connected jumper cables.....

Fourhasketts,
Sorry to hear about your loss! I know what it's like for your boys as I lost my Dad when I was 13. I'll speak for myself and others here....Glad we could help!
You saved me! Thanks for the actual part number - you turned my stressful experience into an easy fix! THANK YOU!!!!!
Extremely grateful for the CORRECT diagnosis and problem fix.
Exactly what was needed on 2011 Exionox LTZ (all similar models should work just fine as well.)
Keep up the good works my fellow DIY's!
you just solved my steering and stabilitrak issues. thanks for the part number and keep up the great work

Don't take it to a dealer!!! I had the same problem with my 08 Equinox. It was the 80 amp mega fuse. $9.82 cents. It caused my power steering to fail and was a pain trying to turn with it. I told the dealer that after I jump started a car, the stabltrak light came on and I had no power steering. I should have checked the fuses myself, but the dealer told me to bring it in because they needed to know what caused it to blow. After 2 hours of waiting the service manager tells me that they need more time to figure out the problem. He never told the tech what I told him about jump starting another car. 15 minutes later it was fixed and I got a bill for 88.62. 79.00 labor and a 1.58 customer pay for some sort of recycling and shop supplies charge for repair order.
I was pissed. Call GMC complaint and they thought it was wrong to charge me also.
The person I talked to said they would call me right back after they call the dealer. That was this morning and never heard from them. Gonna call them again tomorrow.

I had the same problem .. . . kid took the 08 Torrent on Friday night. Called me at midnight saying that the power steering failed. So, I drove down with the other car, drive the Torrent home. Went to the dealership the next day and they said that the fuse, the EPS motor and the EPS module were fried, but they could fix it for about $1,400.
I almost bit, but overheard another service tech talking about 'selling up' another repair.
Of course, right about then I decided that I wanted a second opinion, and I surfed the net with the problems and found this issue with the 'mega fuse'.
Needless to say, $14 later (80-amp fuse), everything is working fine after a pretty good road test.
Damn straight up thanks to this site for saving me the bucks!!!!

I took my car into the dealership that I bought the car form and they made me pay them $104 just to tell me that they have to replace the whole steering column because the sensor was broken which will cost me over $1200 I told them that I was not able to afford that but told me that it was drivable. I will go out looking for the 80-amp fuse tonight. Thank you for sharing.

I have to say that I LOVEEEEEE the people on this forum! You saved me SOOOO much money! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I had the exact problem y'all are talking about. I have an '08 equinox, helped jumped a car, but used the fuse box. My car lost it's power steering, and I freaked! Drove straight to the dealer and of course they couldn't get in my for 4 days (around Christmas time, so understandable).
I finally brought it in, and they said that most likely would not be covered under warranty and would probably be several hundred dollars! What a great Christmas present! That day (while my car was sitting), I researched and found this forum. I thought, what the heck, I'll try the part listed below (THANK YOU!!!).
I went and rescued my car at the end of the day (still hadn't been touched), bought the part, replaced it, and VOILA! My car is driving even better than before!
Knowledge is power, and you people gave that to me! Instead of several hundred, I spent $9.71 on the new fuse!
Thank you for your help. Greatly appreciated! :)

I just wanted to thank everyone for posting about this! We encountered the same problem boosting a family member - we just bought an '07 Equinox and the fuse box & cover are very deceiving (thought it was battery). Replaced the 80amp fuse after reading this page and now we're on our way again, having only spent $20.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am so glad that you guys posted this information. My husband passed away in January and I had no clue what was going on - neither did my 17yo & 13yo sons. I googled the 'stabilitrak' message, paid $10.71 for the part today and replaced it myself. Now it drives good as new. Thanks again for the tip!

Same problem here tonight, told my 16 year old son not to boost his truck with my 07 Equinox. He disobeyed and the serivce stabilitrack light came on and I lost all power steering. Put the ohm meter on lowest setting and received infinite resistance. Got to get the fuse at the dealer. Thanks for the trouble shooting tip.

Where can I get a "LittleFuse 80 amp mega" fuse? Do I have to get it at the dealership or can I get one at an autopart store? What is the best deal? I see from $9-$20 where are the $9 ones??

SOURCE: why does stabilitrak light come on saying service
It's telling you your stabilitrak system is not functioning properly. Sensors in system are failing and setting service light. You need a GM dealer to diagnose system.

SOURCE: my 2007 have a stabilitrak on and service traction...
I would advise to take it to a shop you trust and let them scan your vehicle for trouble codes. From there they can give you an idea as to why these messages appeared. : )
