I would be looking at your remote key , do you have a spare with good buttons and charged, also engine warning can mean a bad oil pressure spencer at the top back of the motor

SOURCE: can you tell me what the symbol on dash is 'far left' please? vt holden commodore 1999

I am not familiar with your vehicle, Ive never heard of it. However a lightning bolt symbol would probably indicate a problem with your electrical system, possibly the battery or alternator.

09 Pontiac G6, My car shows the yellow car and lock symbol, but the security system works just fine.

The yellow car and lock symbol that appears on the dashboard of your Pontiac G6 indicates that the vehicle's security system has detected a problem. This symbol may appear if there is a malfunction with the system or if the system has been triggered by an event such as a collision or attempted break-in.
If the security system is functioning properly and the yellow car and lock symbol is still displayed, it is possible that there is a problem with the security system sensor or wiring. It is recommended to take the vehicle to a mechanic or a Pontiac dealership for further diagnosis and repair.
In the meantime, you can try pressing the unlock button on the remote or using the key to unlock the doors and see if the symbol disappears. If the symbol remains displayed, it is possible that the security system will need to be reset by a professional.

Why does my darango shut off while driving?

If it's an exclamation point inside a triangle, it's called a master warning symbol. This is the Master Warning Light symbol. If this light is on, there will likely be text displayed as well on the instrument panel, or another warning light. Look for text in particular. It could very well point out something as serious as low oil pressure. If the engine is not running, you can't very well check your gauges, but you may have lost all oil pressure or overheated the engine. Recommend you consult a mechanic familiar with your model.

What does the symbol of a car mean when it comes on the dash

you can look in your glove box and find the manual book.
you will be able to find the symbol and what it means. It could be serious or just a minor oxygen sensor. Can you show what the symbol looks like?

A flashing orange symbol shows up on dash panel and I don't know what it is-\r\n--can u show me some examples so that I may know what it means? 2000Dodge Intrepid

I don't have any pictures but if it's flashing it's probably the check engine light (some vehicles show this as a symbol instead of the words). If it is and it's flashing, that indicates the engine is missfiring and could potentially damage the catalytic converters. A diagram of all the warning lights is shown in the owners manual with a nice description

Wrench light is on and odometer shows negative mileage

The negative number means the car should have had it's oil changed that many miles ago. Oil life starts at 100% for new oil & counts down every 10%. At 15% the display will always show, which means it's near time to change the oil.

usersteve83, your oil may have been changed but the timer not reset. Reset the timer as shown...
1. Turn ignition to the "ON" position. (do not start engine)
2. Press SEL/RESET repeatedly until the oil life indicator is displayed.
3. Press & hold the SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds until it blinks then let go of the button.
4. Press the SEL/RESET again for about 5 seconds or until the oil life indicator resets to 100%.

Wrench = Maintenance Minder: Symbol letter & number...
Symbol A - Relace engine oil.
Symbol B - Replace engine oil & filter, Inspect front & rear brakes, Check parking brake adjustment, Visually inpest the tie rods, suspension components, driveshaft boots, brake hoses & line (including ABS), all fluid levels & their conditions, exhaust system, fuel lines & connections.
Symbol 1 - Rotate tires.
Symbol 2 - Replace air cleaner element (dusty conditions every 15K miles) & replace dust & pollen filter (behind glovebox) every 15K miles if mainly dusty or city driving.
Symbol 3 - Replace transmission fluid.
Symbol 4 - Replace spark plugs.
Symbol 5 - Replace engine coolant.

All above are taken from the 2006 Civic EX owner's manual.
