1999 Corvette abs lights & active handling goes off after starting car off and on two or three times then styas off

Your ABS module has failed. The ABS module is used as part of the Active Handling system, so it's also possible that the connector has either come disconnected or corroded. Try some WD-40 on the pins.

SOURCE: Service Active Handling, ABS and Traction Control Lights on

I have had exactly the same problem on and off for 3 years now - and just solved it last week thanks to another computer site. Remove and disassemble both grounds from the top of both the left and right frame rails adjacent to the front corners of the engine block. Completely clean the green corrosion from the internal parts with fine sandpaper and add dielectric grease then re-assemble. Clean the mounting bolt and frame hole while you're at it. Sounds time consuming and difficult, but it ain't. No more than 45 minutes combined. I am a technical airhead so if I can do it so can you. What clued me in was the problem always occurred around wet or humid weather. Also, the clock would always lose time overnite. That has ceased also. Good luck. Anyone know why my left headlite, when deployed, vibrates and shimmys??? Sully [email protected]

SOURCE: abs codes co281 & co265

the first of the two codes is for the brake light switch, the one that is under the dash attached to the brake rod and brake peddle. Not much to diag on that one, if its bad it's bad, and when it sets the code that means it's bad.
The second one is for the abs modual, it's under the truck on the drivers side. It is bolted to the top of the thing that has all of the brake lines going to it. MOST all of the time that code is set the modual is bad. It can be a little hard to get the bolts out they are torqs 20 or 25(i'm getting old). There are four of them holding down the modual. There are also a couple of connectors going to it. And some of the time it will blow the fuse for the abs under the hood(its in the underhood fues block). Make sure to clean off the modual before you pull it out. You don't want dirt getting in the solinoids for the BPMV(that's the thing it's bolted to).

The sensor is probably just dirty, after washing your car, it will be fine.

SOURCE: Service traction system, abs & tra off

There are wheel speed senors that tell the computer about wheel slippage. One or both are malfunctioning or the wiring is chaffed.

Abs,active handling.and trcation control light on

All of the lights you have are really part of the same system which is the ABS, so if a malfunction occurs in any part of the system all warning lights go on at the same time. What needs to be done now is to have the system scanned, there will be a fault code(s) stored in the ABS control module that will indicate which part of the system has developed a problem, this can be such things as a wheel speed sensor (very common), there are 4 sensors one at each wheel behind the brake rotor in the hub. Due to the cost of parts (about $100.00 each for speed sensors) it is only cost conscious that the fault code test be run with a scanner to determine where to look, any GM dealer can do this scan or any well equipped shop with high end universal scan tools such as those made by MAC or SNAP-ON tools.

Abs trac control light goes on at start up then off

It sounds like an ABS sensor or some other sensor going out. IF it's the main computer for the traction/handling system that's big $$$$$ like $1300+ I think.
This problem frequently starts out as occasional, goes to frequent, and then full time.  It usually relates to the ABS/TC assembly on the frame in front of the engine.
It is made of two parts, the EBTCM (the electronic part) wich is bolted to the mechanical half, the BPMV (Brake pressure modulating valve.) Sometimes the electronic grounds for this assembly get corroded or loose. Bad connectors for the ABS speed sensors at each wheel hub can also go bad.

EBTCM = Electronic Brake Traction Control Module
Good luck and hope this helps.

Anti lock brakes activation

if abs activates when it should not,,, it means abs module senses one or more wheel sensores under 3 mph and the other sensores are above 3 mph. .the cause of this is usualy a bad wheel speed sensor or excessive air gap between the sensor and ringwheel. you need an abs data scanner to hook up and go for a test drive to find out which sensor is the culprit.
