I have a 2002 Saturn SL1. I can put my key into the ignition, but it will not turn at all. Sometimes it takes 15-20 minutes before it slips into the right spot and starts. Other times, I only have to try for less than a minute. I'm afraid that at some point that I won't be able to get it to start at all! It is really annoying and has made me late for things. I'm thinking about getting a new key, but after reading some of these things, it doesn't look like it will do much good. Oh well! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I think I'm going to end up taking it to the dealer though.
Catch 22 Because the Ignition Cylinder Lock May Be the Problem OR the Key Alone "Cheeper" Could Be the Problem, See Dealer and they Can Cut you a Key From the Year ,Make, & VIN #
If the Key Doesnt Work It Has to Be the Lock Cylinder. I Would Just Replace the Whole
Lock Cylinder Unit And Be Done With it. Hope This Helps You
Ignition LOCK CYLINDER Comes with Key !
Yes always try a new key 1st,Go to saturn dealer and let them cut one from the vin#,this will give you a very crisp key then use some spay liquid wrench (Get at local hardware) Spray into cylinder, then install new key. This will make the tumblers free up.Works 8 out on ten times.
