Key doesnt start the car

When you insert the key, it will not start the car. Intermmediate problem. Have had the battery checked...ok and have tried using the extra key to see if original key is too worn. Problem is continuing even with the less worn key. Unsure what problem could be.

When I go to start the car, everything else works-windows, radio, door locks. The only thing is the car will not start. When I go to start the car it makes a humming noise. It will generally start after about 15x of trying.

humming noise like the starter solenoid colic but don't turn the motor?inspect the battery terminal and starter terminal for good connection . burn or lose wire will create high resistance and low power.Clean the terminals from corrosion and insure the battery is fully charge. If all the connection are OK replace starter .

If you can turn the key, the problem is electrical. If you can't turn the key,is ignition look cylinder.buy new cylinder with the key. disconnect the battery, turn the cylinder to run position and push the look pin on the cylinder with small punch and pull. insert the new one and you are ready to go.
If the cylinder turn and don't start,is electrical.
with one hand turn and hold the key to starting position with other hand shift slowly from PARK to NEUTRAL. I the engine start ,adjust the neutral safety switch
For next you need helper.
one person start with the key and other with test light check if power go to the starter solenoid. if power go to the small wore, replace the starter

SOURCE: starter wont engage

The problem is either the starter solinoid (located on fender near battery) or you are not getting power to the "s" terminal on the starter solinoid from the ignition switch. If you follow the positive battery cable from the battery you'll follow it to the solinoid. Remove the small wire from the terminal marked "s" on the solinoid and using a screwdriver jump from "s" terminal (not the wire) to where positive battery cable connects to solinoid. (with battery connected). If starter doesn't do anything the solinoid is bad. If starter cranks then you are not getting voltage from ignition switch through "s" terminal wire.

SOURCE: My Fusion wont start, I have had the battery

First make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight. If this doesn't fix it, the problem may be a short in your system that is draining the battery. This case will require troubleshooting.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

01 Xterra dead battery. Tried jump, when I turn key alarm goes off blocks starting. Fobs wont disable/unlock. Only gets power to anti-theft. *Alarm doesnt go off opening door only turning key to start

You could try disconnecting battery, leaving overnight and then inserting ignition key and switching on before reconnecting the battery.

It has sometimes worked for me but in reality it seems you probably have an alarm immobiliser fault you need specialist help with.

Problem:
I own a 2001 clk430 mercedes benz ,when i insert my key into the ingnition and try to start the car it wont go to first position. My steering lock doesnt unlock.
Solution:
One possibility...Has your battery been disconnected? If so, then it could be causing the system to not recognize the key (assuming your key has a battery and the battery is working).. If key has battery... Check it. If you have had the battery serviced and it was disconnect the computer may have to be reset.. I have had this happen with a few radios (after service).. Suddenly no radio.. Took it back to repair shop.. They reset it..
Always can ask at dealer.. I like to ask the parts department. I pick their brains before I decide what to do... I find they are very helpful (of course, I am chatty and friendly)..

Hope that helps,

The battery is good but it wont start

It may be the solenoid (electro-magnetic clamp) that engages the starter motor with the flywheel to start the car. Unfortunately, this usually involves replacing the entire starter.

Hi Kelly,
sounds like your battery is a bit sick. Or it could be the starter motor solenoid sticking.
The click you are hearing is probably the starter motor solenoid. If you hear a series of loud clicking its usually due to a flat battery in which case you need a jump start from another car.
If you can get someone to charge up your battery using a portable charger and the car starts OK, its a fair bet your battery is on it's way out. You can get your battery tested at any large reputable auto repair shop.
If the battery is OK, the solenoid can get stuck on your starter motor. Often a light tap with a rubber or wooden mallet can free up a stuck solenoid, but ultimately you will need a new starter motor. (BTW The solenoid is the smaller bit attached to your starter motor. There will be heavy wires attached to it) Have a look at link 1 below for more info.

Have a look here for some info to help you understand your starter circuit:

2001 isuzu rodeo doesnt always start. new

Dirty terminals, happens all the time. Did you have the battery tested? Or just know it's OK? Did you check the water? How about the electrolytes? Get the terminals cleaned off with a wire brush, and scrape the insides, make sure they are tight. I have replaced more batteries this week, must be the weather. One was stone dead, 5 volts and still started the car?? Couldn't believe it, good car. The other 2 were dead with 12+ volts but wouldn't start anything, both got new terminals, and both got cleaned up. NO problems. Check it out. Lastly, the solenoid in the starter could be bad if everything else checks out, whack it with a hammer while turning the key, if it jumps, you found it.

IF THE BATTERY WENT DEAD RECENTLY YOU COULD HAVE LOST THE ROLLING CODE BETWEEN THE DME AND THE EWS MODULES. HAVE A DEALER CHECK TO SEE IF THEY ARE STILL ALIGNED. ALSO TRY A DIFFERENT KEY JUST IN CASE ONE IS BAD.
