Ford ranger idle problems

Hi i got ford ranger 4L v6 4x4 i have pressure tested the cylinder head but still it does not idle right. when i rev it high it is clear but when i leave it to idle it misses.there are new plugs in.

I would check your crankshaft positing sensor this may be bad. I would also change your spark plugs and wires becuase they may have got water in them causing a short between them and the head. I would very carefully use air to clean the dirt from your engine compartment first. Autozone runs a free code check for you and this will tell you your problem. To clear your codes and to make the check engine light go off take off your battery cables and wait 30 minutes. You may also have a bad coil which will cause a misfire as well and a 306 error means a misfire to your 6th cylinder so it's probaly this. I hope this information helps.

Check all of your vacume lines. If it isn't a vacume line it is most likely the O2 sensor.

Hi I have a 2013 ford ranger and it has a rattle in the motor.

first question --diesel or petrol
diesel can be injection too far advanced/ excessive fuel (crank position sensor or injector control module)
petrol ignition timing too far advanced
crank position sensor , air /fuel ratio causing detonation
in both cases run the fault codes first
the noise will be there when traveling but the vehicle noise covers it

My 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0 low compression on 3 4 and 5

Well, the leakdown test is important. But what I was taught is that rings can be temporarily sealed for diagnosis with oil, and valves can not.

There are coincidences, but for such a difference to be on one bank would lead me to suspect valve timing on the bad side or a bad head gasket. Or like you thought, bad valves or a bad head.

The oil test I mentioned is a compression test done after the suspected bad cylinders are liberally coated with oil. A uniform increase in pressure indicates rings are the problem. But as valves are topside, they would not receive enough oil to coat them to effectively form a seal.

The timing I mentioned, would affect all 3 cylinders on one bank if the side jumped time. The pistons would not be in optimum position for complete compression.

My 1995 ranger rev's high on start up and takes a few seconds to slow down

Unplug the IAC motor when it's warm. It should be idling at below 500. If it is faster than this check for vac leaks. If non are found, adjust the base idle. Then plug the IAC back in and let the Idle stabilize. Now it should be about 800. Shut it off and try it again and see if it revs high.

Could be head gasket or piston rings. Piston ring issues will smoke under load or when revving the engine.

Do a compression test.
