draw a diagram of the old belt position before starting so that you can remember where it goes. The idler pully will have a nut that has to be loosened. Just behind the idler will be a long bolt that when turned releases the tension on the belt. screw it until you can easily remove the belt. replace the belt as per your diagram and retension the belt when you are satisified that sufficient tension on the belt exists tighten up the nut of the idler pulley
I had 4 saturns, 91-01, all of them had a little silver sticker in the engine bay with a belt diagram, also showing how to release tension to remove and replace the belt. further if you note the inside of the belt is ribbed, thus the belt goes around those pulleys which are ribbed, and the smooth back of the belt goes against those pulleys which are not ribbed.
draw a diagram first of how it goes around the pulleys.make sure its accurate, and each pulley is named,ie aircon,geni,p/steer/crank/,then usually just need to detension belt by backing off the belt tensioner[use good size spanner or fixed socket on bar]slip belt off.the tensioner usually just springs back, fit new belt reverse way, check against diagram before starting
for the most part there is a diagram under the hood showing you how the belt goes but give this website a try drive belt diagram www.webcrawler.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
This information can be found at www.serpentinebeltdiagram.com
They have all the belt routing info for any vehicle with a serpentine belt.
Hope this helps....
remove your front right tire. remove the black plastic splash cover. loosen the tightening wheel bolt, under to the left, under the fly wheel. make a diagram of the way the belt is or goes before removing, replace belt. tighten the wheel bolt. and start engine.
