Oil pressure is reading fine, until it starts to travel over 80km/hr., then gives a low pressure reading. Oil level is good. & oil has just been changed & filter
It could be a few things causing this, oil sending unit going bad, oil pressure relief valve, wrong weight of oil, or the engine has very high mile on it
Check that the oil level is not over the mark as this causes foaming of the oil and loss of pressure. At 80km/hr you will be doing around 3 grand and that will be enough to whip the excess oil into froth.. Too much oil is worse than too little oil.
Check the oil level is not over full and is the grade for that engine, remove the oil pressure sender unit and fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge, idle oil pressure should be 15 psi or higher, if ok replace the sender unit, if little or no oil pressure , check the oil pump for a stuck return valve or broken return spring, do not drive till fault is fixed or damage will result.
SOURCE: fluctuation on the oil pressure gauge reading
The oil pressure sending unit is a sensor with an internal diaphragm, if the internal diaphragm is damaged , or the line to the diaphragm is blocked you can get this kind of fluctuation on the oil pressure gauge.
The oil pressure value must be read by installing a mechanical gauge near to the oil pressure switch and checking the pressure.
If pressure is ok, replace the sending unit. If there is a real pressure drop, check the oil pump.
If you still get fluctualtion after replacing the oil pressure sending unit, replace the oil pressure gauge.

these cars have problems with bad oil pressure warning switches you may have someone put an oil pressure gauge on the car and make sure your pressure is within spec and go ahead and change the sender if it checks out please rate -jeff

hi ben
my answer would be yes i would wory about it...
Guages are put on vehicals for a reason not just for looks i would have the car hooked to a diagnostic center and checked even though the guage may be faulty but i wouldnt take a chance

Take a gauge and check you oil pressure. If its not low then change the pressure sensor. If the pressure varies and the pressure is not where it is supposed to be, then drop the oil pan and look in the bottom of the pan. If you see slivers of metal then the bearings are going out. Eather the cam bearing, rod bearing, or main bearings.
SOURCE: oil consumption, no smoke, no leaks
Yes a crappy PVC valve can cause some of your problems but not necessarily all of them, they are cheap, I always replace it to start. The air cleaner housing being full of oil is like how the oil is being consumed. In addition to a PVC valve, there may also be a blow-by hose running into the housing. check to see what other hoses go into the housing & which ones have oil coming from them. I'm not familiar with the "Motor Honey" you mentioned but I rarely add additives to my Engine oil, especially if they are thickeners. The only stuff I recommend is a Quaker state or similar "High Mileage Oil". These semi-synthetic oils have additives to swell old rubber & cork seals in older engines and can help reduce oil consumption & leakage. Again, it may not be a total solution, but it couldn't hurt to drain out all of the existing oil & replace with a high mileage type & also change the filter at the same time. Never mix it with other oils, despite the manufacturer telling you it may be safe to do so.
