2002 Celica overheating since the serpentine belt was replaced. Heat takes about 20 minutes to come on in the morning. Engine overheats coming home until the air conditioner is turned on then it runs at normal running temp. Is this a thermostat problem , air in the system problem or was something screwed up when the serpentine belt was replaced ? Thanks Andy

c7d7b55.jpg Cooling Thermostat.
Look along the radiator hose where it enters the engine. This controls the water temperature.

toyotacelicathermalfanswitch.jpgToyota Celica Thermal Fan Switch The Toyota Celica thermal radiator fan switch is usually located in the radiator or the engine block and has 2 or 3 wires coming from the unit. The 3 wire switch has a dual sensor for dual speed radiator fans. The Toyota Celica thermo fan switches come in the factory temperature settings and also come in cooler thermostatic settings so the fan will come on at a lower coolant temp.

The Toyota Celica cooling system is made of aluminum components and requires a Phosphate free coolant. DO NOT PUT an over the counter antifreeze in your Toyota Celica, as it will ruin the radiator and water pump.

SOURCE: How to instal serpentine belt Toyota celica 2001

Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the right hand cover under the engine.
  2. Turn the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve tension on the belt.
  3. Remove the fan and generator V belt.
  4. Return the tensioner to the unloaded position.

NOTE When retracting the tensioner, turn it clockwise slowly in 3 sec. or more. Be sure not to apply force rapidly. After the tensioner is retracted all the way, do not apply force any more than necessary.

To install:
  1. Turn the drive belt tensioner clockwise
  2. Install the belt.
  3. Install the right hand cover under the engine.

Overheating

I would check your cooling fans. When you turn on the AC, it probably starts a second fan. Maybe the other one is not working?

2002 celica no heat /overheating

I doubt that the belt is the problem as you will be have problems with the charging and probably the air con. The most likely problem would be the thermostat. Thermostats have two purposes, firstly they stop water circulating when the engine is cold so that it can reach operating temperature quickly (which also gives you warm air quicker in the morning). Secondly it regulates the speed that the water circulates. If the coolant is circulating too quick then it wont stay in the radiator long enough to be cooled therefore causing the engine to overheat, the air con turns on a thermostatic fan to increase airflow so the cooling will improve that's why the temperature "returns to normal". You will find on colder days the temperature will drop "lower than normal" with the a/c on. It's worthwhile changing the thermostat as you will find that your car will actually run a bit more efficient on fuel. Also check that the fluid in the cooling system is proper engine coolant, that will help considerably with the proper cooling of the engine not to mention reduce corrosion of parts in the system which can be very expensive to replace.

How long does it take to fix the timing belt in a 2002 toyota celica gt?

Im not sure if your code P1692 acts the same way as a Toyota Celica GT-S, but I read a forum in Newcelica.org in which the solution was an oil pressure switch located on the driverside of the engine nearest the battery, it MIGHT be, dont quote me on it as the 1zz and 2zz engine setup is different. Go to Newcelica.org and type in code P1692 in the search box and you will be able to find forums from ANYONE and EVERYONE who has experienced this problem, im suffering from the same code! lol, good luck

My wife has an 200 model Toyota Celica with

I believe the Celica has a belt and it should be inspected every 100,000 miles or so. You can inspect it yourself and as long as there is no missing teeth on the belt or cracks it shouldn't need replacing. Good luck to you

Knocking noise from valve lifters , car was low on oil replaced oil will it correct itself

These engines were overhead cam.If you did put the oil back in as you said and the noise went away,no initial problem. The noise from the lifters, if its still there, is a ongoing problem.Maybe just an adjustment of the lifters needs to be done.Hope this helps
