I had an older vehicle that overheated. I flushed out the radiator twice, but it was so clogged up, I had to replace it, so check the radiator. If you inspect the radiator from the filler neck, you can see if there is crud build-up on the tubes. The problem could be the water pump. Typically when water pumps fail, they start to leak from the weep hole(s) on top and /or bottom. Is there any leak from the pump? If there is, that is indication that the pump need to be replaced. Hope this helps !

so far we haven't detected any kind of leak. but it looked like someone put powdered stop leak into the radiator but the radiator doesn't have a leak. so our thought is to flush the radiator and replace the water pump anyways since the car might still have the original one in it. thank you.

Have you shop perform a "leakdown test." You probably have a bad head gasket )or a leak in the gasket).

make sure there is no air in the coolant system. As a air lock could accure preventing coolant from circulating and over heating resulting.
look for a plug at the highest point in coolant system. if no plug is found remove thermostat and housing. pour 50/50 water/antifreeze mixture slowly into cold engine block till full. install plug or thermostat. remove radiator cap making sure coolant is full right up to radiator filler neck. also make sure coolant is up to the lower mark on radiator reservoir leaving radiator cap off run engine to operating temp. coolant is flowing threw system when upper rad. hose is hot. shut off engine let cool check and top up coolant levels while squeezing upper rad hose to expel any air that might still be in system. eplace rad cap. take for test drive making sure temp. stays in normal operating range recheck coolant.. as stated at the beging very important that all air is out of coolant system as a air lock could acure preventing coolant from circulating resulting in a over heating situation... hope this helped

Yes. Remove the housing (not the hose) and you'll find the thermostat.

Are the cooling fans coming on during normal operation? If your ac works turn it on and see if it overheats with ac on.If it does not overheat the fans are not operating properly under normal operating conditions. The ac will force the fans on. What you can do to start is just let the car idle in park and see if fans will come on normally. The coolant temp should reach 200-210 before the fans will come on. Make sure the air is off at this time. If we can verify the fans are working or not working properly we can go to the next step. Let me know what you find out.

Depending on how fast it reaches boiling temp, it could be a leaking head gasket or a blockage in the system. I am also assuming the cooling fan comes on at the correct temp.
A blockage would do the same thing as a stuck thermostat, and a leaking head gasket would cause the system to have extra pressure.
