SOURCE: Gas Gauge not reading correctly

The most likely culprit is the sending unit in the tank. They are relatively easy to change, as long as you don't have much fuel in the tank. It's a mechanical unit that has a float that raises and lowers with the fuel level, however with age, the floats can develop leaks and no longer float, of the electronic portion of the unit can go bad and not register the proper level. They are replaced and an entire unit, so it doesn't matter which happened, you will need to change the fuel tank sending unit.

SOURCE: gas gauge is wrong

It is likely that its the sending unit in the tank. One way to determine if its the guage or the sending unit is to ground the wire from the guage and it should peg out. If it doesnt then its the guage if it does then its the sending unit.

SOURCE: FUEL GAUGE SHOWING FULL TANK BUT BUT ONLY HALF TANK OF GAS

Hello. You may have a problem with the fuel sending mechanism in your gas tank or you may have a fungus in your gas tank which is causing it to show much more fuel than you actually have. Drive to an AAMCO repair shop where they will scan your car's computer for free [some auto parts stores now offer this free as well so call around]. If it is mechanical it should show up on the scan, if not you probably have the gas fungus. Some auto parts stores and dealerships now sell an expensive gas tank additive that will kill that fungus. Regards, Joe

SOURCE: Why is gas gauge not working correctly since fuelpump was replaced.

Is this a flex fuel vehicle. If so, call the dealership and ask the parts dept. if there is a gauge module (perhaps behind the instrument cluster). This may be the culprit and needs to be replaced.

2004 pt cruiser gas guage showing incorrect reading

There is a trick to reset all of the gauges in your PT Cruiser. There are three simple steps to reset them.
Step 1. Hold down the "Trip" button
Step 2. While holding onto the Trip button, turn the key and start the car. (This should make all the gauges and numbers reset and run a test)
Step 3. Release the trip button and the fuel gauge should work properly.
If not, there might be a problem with your fuel pump.

The gas gauge on my 2001 Nissan Altima shows full when filled up, but only tets to 1/2 full when it is near empty. Suggestions?

Either the fuel tank sender in the tank is bad and needs replacement, or the fuel gauge is faulty. I would bet the one in the tank is probably bad, because that's usually the case. Find the connection at the fuel tank, disconnect it and use a VOM to get a resistance reading while the tank is empty and reading 1/2. It should match the specs.

Town and Country Van running out of gas and guage says half a tank what could be the problem?

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

My gas guage does not work on my 99 honda prelude. I took it in and the mechanic said my needle was bad. They checked the sending unit first and it is ok....according to them. So I got a whole new...

Check your fuse , check the wires to the gas tank , could be the mechanism inside the tank , if you cant get it working use your trip meter as a gas gauge so you don't run out , just reset it when you fill your tank and refill before a set # of miles , lets say 200 miles , just fill the tank and reset the trip meter , just remember to fill the tank full and reset to 000 every time so you wont run out of gas

The gas guage and temperature guage in my 02 cavalier are not working properly. half of the time the temp guage stays below 40 and will not go up and when i fill up the car and start it the gas guage will...

Hi, take the connector off the temp sensor, turn the key on, and have someone watch the gauge while you insert a paperclip to short the terminals together inside the connector. If the gauge goes from one extreme to the other when the terminals are connected, the cluster is probably OK. It may just be that both sensors are bad.

Gas gauge is not reading correctly. Shows a full

the problem is caused by a defective gas gauge sending unit, this part is located inside the gas tank, you must remove the gas tank to replace it.

Gas gauge reads empty but tank acts like it's full

I also have a 04 with a 1.8L. same problem. I took the fuel regulator off. It is a black box behind the rear tire under car. It only has 2 bolts to take off. After that there is a couple of vent hoses from the tank going to this box. Unplug them and 1 electrical connection. The electrical connection and one vent is connected to a T connection on the box that you can unplug by twisting on the T. Take that T off and look inside where you unplugged the hose on this T. There is a spring and a little plunger inside this tube. The plunger gets stuck. I took a little screw driver and some PB blaster and worked that plunger back and forth a couple dozen times and it unfroze. Put it back together gassed up just fine. I did not look but I was told regulator can be replaced for 200$. But a can of blaster is cheaper.

Check gauges light

Possible bad guage, bad wiring, or bad sending unit. Check each one independently of each other, start with wiring first, then sending unit.
