Intermittant stall at same location. 5 miles from home. 1 stop on downhill slope, no stall. 4 blocks over hill to level at stop light,

Sounds like about the right distance for the system to go into close loop.Use a good scan tool to check parameters of the system to locate the failing sensor/item when it stalls.

No power when going up hill

I have seen many pass though my shop, these are some what known for this ! There's a 95% chance it is your TPS, throttle positions sensor, now the other 5% has also been there Crankshaft Sensor and IAC, are you doing you doing the work yourself ? If you are, it would help if you get a repair manual for your car. Because then you can follow the test for each of these, you would also need a multi meter to test with. On a scale of 1~5 with 5 being the hardest, I would say it's a 2.What you need the repair book for is the voltage to test for on each of these sensors.

Hi tinkerbel925

Have you tried scanning it with a scan tool? If this much is going wrong there should be a check engine light on. This will tell you what is making your van do all that crazy stuff.

Cruise control will not maitain the speed it is set on. going up a hill it gets slower and going down a hill it gets faster

My experience is that cruise control works on level roads, uphill you have to control speed yourself same for downhill. Exception is very powerful cars. Did it maintain speeds before? (uphill + downhill)

Car feels slugish when going up-hill, slight vibration, level and downhill runs ok, from start shifts through gears fine, just feels odd at times

problems you described would suggest you need to replace the spark plugs, a bad one tends to fail under loads like going up hill. the other thing you could try is to get a better fuel grade, that would correct pinging noises uphill. and throw in some fuel injector cleaner every 2000km, it makes a happy running engine

1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.

1984 GMC Jimmy 2.8 l carburated stalls when going uphill

remove the carb. and clean the float , and the float bowl . when gas setts to long it gums up that area and doesn't get the right amount of fuel into the bowl , so when you hit a hill its starving for fuel
