Gas needle broke

I can't tell how much gas is in my car I can put 20 dollars on a pump an it wont take the whole twenty dollars an gas will start spelling out like the car is full with gas an I wouldn't drive that far to where my car would be out of gas on a full tank an it would run out of gas an i'll have to put more in

You are experiencing fuel tank venting problems. Air needs to excape when filling. The normal system in the tank for releasing air is being blocked. A repair shop will probably have to drop the tank out of the car to check the vent system.

SOURCE: almost ran out of gas. put 5 gallons in tank.

worst thing for fuel pumps is to run dry. The pressure will need to be confirmed. If none ,you overheated the pump and it will need to be replaces.

Replace fuel filter and check fuel lines for any blockage.

Check fuel pump pressure and fuel pump regulator. It sounds like you are not getting fuel into the system and if you are you are not getting enough fuel into the system

Could it be the fuel pump
i have a 2001 tracker 2.0 engine it did the same thing it run good but when i cut off i wud have to wait about 10 minutes and it wud start back up i put a new camshaft position sensor on it and its ok now the sensor cost me 289.00 dollars its easy to put on takes maby 5 minutes if u put that sensor on it u wont have anymore problems

Two things come to mind. You broke the pressure seal to the fuel system when you took off the gas cap. The fresh gas rushing in disturbs any dirt or debris on the bottom of the tank.
Next time you use the car when you arrive at our destination, simulate what you do when you fuel up. This will mimic everythig except the new fuel rushing in. If it is still hard to start you know it's something to do with the evaporative fuel system. If not, you need the fuel tank inspected .

Have the fuel pressure tested.Sometimes fuel pumps that go bad shut off when they get hot.After they cool off the car will start and drive again.If you have it tested and the problem doesnt happen at the mechanic (as usual).Have the mechanic show you where the fuel pressure valve is.It looks like the valve on your tire when you put air in.This way if your driving and it happens you can check yourself to see if fuel is in the line.Just like your tire valve if you push the needle air will come out,if you push the needle on the fuel valve fuel should come out.If it doesnt then you just confirmed your fuel pump is bad

2000 Ford Expedition Starting problem
If the fuel gauge drops off when you are driving then its a sending unit problem that means you have to drop the tank and replace the float and sending unit. This is a common problem for alot of cars because of cheap gas. If you have to drop the tank check the fuel pump canster for dirt because of cheap gas. Replace the fuel pump strainer and fuel pump filter. If the car or truck has about 100,000 miles you might want to change the fuel pump at that time also just to cover your back. If you take it to a shop they will charge you at least $900 to start. But if you do it yourself it will cost you about $200 dollars maybe alittle more.

I have a 96 ponitac sunfire 2.4 engine i can drive
pcv valve which is only 5 dollars at auto parts store, and oxygen sensor which is 20 dollars. I had the same problem and then i instaled them and it ran like new, for under 50$$

Car starts but turns off after a 10 min or so.
This definitely sounds like a fuel pump/filter issue. Good news if it's the filter, it's only about 10 dollars to buy a new one and about 5 minutes labor, including jacking up your car.

Fuel pumps cant be a pain in the arse at times, others are fairly easy. Best way to determine if it's the fuel pump, run over to Canadian tire and pick up an ohms meter. Test the fuel pump that way.

Possible fuel pump??
What is the year, make and model? One thing you can do to see if the problem is the fuel pump is to hook up a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail located on the top o the engine. The valve that you hook the guage up to loos similar to the valve stem on a bike tire or car this will tell you if you are getting fuel pressure or not. Another common problem is the fuel pump relay which can sometimes go bad. This is usually located near your fuse block and they cost around $20 dollars depending on which application requires them. Keep me posted.
