code p 1354 refers to variable valve timing system malfunction bank 2
causes are problem with valve timing
dirty or low engine oil level
problem VVT ( variable valve timing) controller assembly
faulty oil control valve
defective PCM
It works like this
although the valve timing is initially set at the pulley, that pulley is attached to a moveable section that controls the actual valve timing as is required by different rpm and load settings
That moving action is controlled by a solenoid and oil pressure from the engine

How do I fix trouble code p1354 on a 2000 Toyota avalon?

P1354 Toyota Description
Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system controls the intake valve timing to proper timing in response to driving condition. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls Oil Control Valve (OCV) to make the intake valve timing properly, and, oil pressure controlled with OCV is supplied to the VVT controller, and then, VVT controller changes relative position between the camshaft and the crankshaft.

Is the car running fine? Have any aberrations? If not, it is possible you are being victimized by defective sensors. Happens.

2000 Toyota Avalon with a p1354 code. ( bank 2 vvt ). Replaced both back 1 and bank 2 vvt solenoids. Drove car over 100 miles and came back on again. Light comes on and a few days later it begins missing...

Timing belt is a bit stretched. Time to have it replaced. Toyota has to be dead on the money, when it comes to the timing marks. I done several of them and you have to add extra pressure to the belt tensioner to make them run right.

Have a 2001 toyota avalon xls. P1354 manufacturer's control code comes up--engine light is on. Does this have to do with oil pressure??

P1354 is VVT system malfunction bank 2. VVT it Variable Valve Timing. Your ECM controls 2 OCVs (Oil Control Valves) which corrects engine valve timeing for driving conditions. there is a possibility that a pice of debrise has plugged the oil passage in the Bank 2 OCV. If you do not maintain good oil health ( changing your oil and oil filter regularly ) oil will sludge and harden in areas. a pice of this can become dislodged and travel through your oil system and cause a blockage in the system. Other possibilities are, Faulty wireing to the OCV, Faulty OCV, or Faulty ECM

I have a 2000 Avalon and have gotten a Check Engine code of P1354. The Jiffy Lube folks tell me this is something to do with the VVI Malfunction Bank 2. How serious is this? Can I drive the car for a week...

The vvt-i system control timing with the help of the oil pressure if you are pass due, or skip oil changes, or oil is low due to a leak, or improper fill during an oil change, or simple the vvt-i oil actuator, or the vvt-i oil gear are faulty this code may be set.

What you can do. Make sure the oil is ok, the oil filter is new, now disconnect the battery for 10 seconds. code is clear if code comeback is time to let the dealer take care of the problem they have bidirectional scanners to activate this devices and tell you the best course of action.
